Site News: Nintendo Life Partners With Family Gaming, Brings Accessibility Info To Reviews And Game Pages

Say hello to an in-depth accessibility upgrade.

For some time now we’ve been considering how best to integrate meaningful and consistent accessibility information for the games we cover on Nintendo Life and across the Hookshot network. Today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve partnered with Family Gaming to bring in-depth accessibility information to readers via our reviews and game pages on Nintendo Life and its sister sites, Push Square and Pure Xbox.

As you may have already spotted in our Pikmin 4 review, both the review itself and the corresponding game page now display accessibility information integrated from the Family Gaming Database API. Covering a wide range of software across platforms, the database currently has just under 1,400 assessed games and counting.

Poll: Which Dormant Nintendo Franchise Would You Most Like To See Return?

We’ll never let go.

Whenever Nintendo brings a franchise back from the brink of extinction, it’s always cause for significant celebration. Take Pikmin, for example: yes, it’s hardly the most obvious example since we received Hey! Pikmin in 2017, but it’s been over a decade since Pikmin 3 launched on the Wii U. Despite the ongoing rumours and hints regarding what would eventually become Pikmin 4, many of us had simply accepted that maybe, just maybe, the mainline franchise would remain indefinitely dormant

Thankfully, this wasn’t the case, and Pikmin 4 is just about ready for its grand debut on the Switch. It’s not alone either. For a good while, it was feared that even Metroid would become lost to the Nintendo archives, but with the successful launch of both Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime Remastered on the Switch, you could argue that the franchise has never been healthier.

So much to do, so much to see.

Prior to the release of the Pikmin 4 demo, we were of the mindset that Pikmin 3 (and its Deluxe Switch port) was the most polished that the series had ever been. The environments were gorgeous, the multiplayer was heaps of fun and the new Pikmin types added even more ways to play. In short, we loved it.

It has now been ten years since the game first launched on Wii U and it turns out that for all this time, there was a scrapped section of the game that we never knew about. Ever noticed how Pikmin 3 seems to end very suddenly? This might just explain why.
