GTA VI will be revealed this week, if you believe the fans

Rockstar are about to properly announce Grand Theft Auto VI, going by some hectic speculation surrounding a TwiX image for GTA Online‘s upcoming in-game Red Happy Moon Tee festival. A child in the ways of the internet might glance at said image and merely conclude that if you play GTA Online at any point this week, you can scoop up a seasonal cosmetic. But look again with unclouded eyes, young one. What does your heart say to you?

Ion Fury: Aftershock launches today with bike combat, bouncier bullets and remixed enemies

Ion Fury: Aftershock, an expansion pack for Voidpoint’s retro FPS featuring new weapons, enemies and game modes, launches today 2nd October 2023, and there’s a trailer below awaiting your fervent appreciation.

Well, assuming you’re not Matt Cox – in our review of the main game, he deemed it an experience in which “old-school decisions too often trump good ones” and “a blast from a past I never lived through”, concluding that “Ion’s tongue might be in its cheek, but I’ve got little interest in what it’s saying.” Ouch. Still, Steam user verdicts are markedly more enthusiastic, and what kind of jaded soul would turn his nose up at a Cluster Shot launcher with bouncing bullets? Bouncing bullets, Matt.

Explosive shooter Prodeus is getting an expansion that adds a spear and a grappling hook

My love of ’90s first-person shooters is not matched by my enthusiasm for modern throwback ‘boomer shooters’. Of all the recent gib-fanciers, I lasted longest with Prodeus. It looked stunning, it felt great to play, and it ran niftily on my Steam Deck.

Now there’s a new mini-campaign expansion on the way. The Elder Veil adds a spear, a grappling hook, and a new mini-campaign.

The Binding of Isaac is getting online multiplayer “soon”

12 years later, The Binding of Isaac remains my go-to roguelite. There have been some incredible Rogue-inspired games since, but nothing has quite stuck its disgusting, fly and poop-covered hooks in me like Edmund McMillen’s tale of a crying child fighting his murderous mother using the power of his tears. Yes, I’m in therapy, why do you ask?

Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.01 update gives new meaning to the phrase “performance drop”

CD Projekt have detailed Cyberpunk 2077 2.01, the game’s first patch following update 2.0, which implemented a top-to-bottom reset of the once-ailing but at present, rather triumphant sci-fi RPG. According to the provisional changelog, the latest update encompasses general performance improvements and minor fixes plus a fatal bug which sees V falling through an elevator floor to their death when the performance falls too low. Now that’s what I call a plunging frame-rate.

Moonstone Island’s farming doesn’t quite gel with its Ghibli-esque Poké-like battles

It’s so stormy where I live that a house in the town next over lost its roof this morning, which must mean it’s the season for cosy life sim games. After having fun in Fae Farm recently, this week I’ve been taking Moonstone Island for a spin. The twist for this Stardewlike is that it has collided the farming and having a nice house business with Pokémon-style death battles involving whimsical Ghibli-esque Spirits. After a few scant hours I think I sort of… like it…? But I also have some problems with it.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty’s combat is great – and best of all, often avoidable

Cyberpunk 2077’s update 2.0 makes its RPG combat better than it’s ever been. The new perk system means that you can easily create a brutal killing machine, one capable of deflecting bullets with samurai swords and air-dashing like an anime hero to punch enemies apart.

Phantom Liberty, the expansion released right after update 2.0, makes its combat better in one extra way: by making most of it optional.
