Masayuki Kato, Founder Of Nihon Falcom, Has Passed Away

Executive served as Chairman until his passing.

Masayuki Kato, the founder of Japanese developer Nihon Falcom, has sadly passed away the age of 78, the company has announced.

Kato founded the company back in 1981 and, as highlighted by our friends over at Time Extension, chose the name ‘Falcom’ as a play on the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars, ultimately adding in ‘Nihon’ as he felt the single word title wasn’t quite enough on its own.

MySims Cozy Bundle Has Received A Switch Update, New Features Coming “Early Next Year”

MySims made a surprise comeback on the Switch last month with EA’s release of the ‘Cozy Bundle‘ and the game is still receiving some post-launch support.

Nintendo Announces The Final Tetris 99 Maximus Cup For 2024

It’s Zelda themed!

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been one of the major highlights for the Switch this year, and to send 2024 out with a bang, Tetris 99‘s final Maximus Cup of the year will be all about this game!

The 44th Maximus Cup will take place between 19th December and 23rd December, and if you participate and accumulate 100 points, you’ll unlock a special theme.

Bandai Namco Promises To Release Tales Remasters “Fairly Consistently”

The series celebrates its 30th anniversary next year.

Bandai Namco has kicked off its Tales series 30th-anniversary celebrations with the Anniversary Project Special Broadcast. And while there were no special surprises or announcements, series producer Yusuke Tomizawa did reiterate that the team would be working on more remasters.

In the original Japanese broadcast (reported on by Gematsu), Tomizawa-san stated that he couldn’t reveal specific plans, but did say that Bandai Namco intends to “provide fairly consistently.”

Unpacking Dev Says Nintendo “Hasn’t Responded” To Reports Of Copycat Games

“It’s been over two weeks”.

We’ve talked about copycats and scam games on the eShop many times — with a multitude of games using keywords and AI-generated screenshots and key art flooding the eShop, it’s a huge problem for devs.

And now, the creative director of indie hit Unpacking has called Nintendo out on the lack of response to these games (via Eurogamer). Specifically, this follows on from a number of games and DLC sharing the same name as Witch Beam’s beautiful puzzle game appearing on the eShop in late November.

PSA: If You’re Into Switch 2 ‘Leaks’, It’s The Wild West Out There Right Now

Over the weekend there’s been a flurry of Switch 2-related activity online, with unsubstantiated details and mock-ups for the officially-not-yet-revealed console doing the rounds on social media.

Following on from accessory makers such as iVolver and Dbrand putting out images and dimensions of the Switch 2, NextHandheld on Reddit claims to have seen and handled (though not played) the final retail hardware and has been fielding questions from curious fans.

Capcom Intends To Continue “Re-Activating Dormant IPs”

Okami and Onimusha are paving the way.

Some of the biggest surprises at this year’s Game Awards show were provided by Japanese video game giant Capcom with the revival of classic IPs like Okami and Onimusha.

In a company press release on its official website, Capcom has now made it clear this is all part of an initiative to focus on “re-activating dormant IPs” in its library that “haven’t had a new title launch recently”.
