Review: Mario Tennis (GBC) – Camelot’s Ace Little Tennis RPG Is Hard To Fault

Courts of appeal.

This review originally went live in 2014, and we’re updating and republishing it to celebrate the game’s arrival in Switch’s Game Boy (Color) library via Nintendo Switch Online.

For whatever its name is worth, Mario Tennis doesn’t feature a lot of the red guy — at least at first. That may come as an initial disappointment to some who were drawn to the M-word. Now, if you came for the ‘tennis’ part, well, that’s a whole different story.

Capcom Shares Results Of The Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary ‘Top Monster’ Poll

And the winner is…

Hot off the back of revealing that Monster Hunter Stories will be coming to Switch this June, Capcom was keeping up with the Monster Hunter 20th anniversary celebrations as it finally shared the results of the fan-favourite ‘Top Monster’ poll which we first heard about last year.

This one put all 229 monsters in the series against each other to see which one came out on top. The above video runs down the top 20 so you can see where the likes of Shagaru Magala and Primordial Malzeno land in the rankings, but come on, it’s the top three that we all really want to know.

Penny’s Big Breakaway On Switch Is Getting A Frame Rate Update

At launch it was capped at 30FPS.

Evening Star’s new 3D platformer Penny’s Big Breakaway got off to a solid start when it arrived last month, but notably was capped at 30FPS. Fortunately, this is set to change in the next update, with developer Christian Whitehead confirming the upcoming console update will unlock the Switch frame rate.

This will allow players to choose between 30FPS and a 60FPS option. Similar to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, it may not necessarily maintain silky-smooth performance at this frame rate, but it will at least be an option. This update will also add anti-aliasing to 30FPS.

Creators Of New Switch Emulator ‘Suyu’ Hope To Avoid Nintendo’s Wrath

“Suyu currently exists in a legal gray area”.

Earlier this month, the Switch emulator Yuzu was shut down in response to a legal push from Nintendo. It wasn’t all that surprising given the Big-N’s historic protection of its properties and disapproval of unsanctioned emulation, and equally unsurprising is that a new Switch emulator is already stepping up to take Yuzu’s place — one that, reportedly, is doing everything in its power to avoid a similar legal fate (thanks, Ars Technica).

Suyu (pronounced ‘sue-you’ *wink, wink* according to the emulator’s GitLab page) is built from the Yuzu source code and its aim is to continue the work of “the world’s most popular, open-source Nintendo Switch emulator, Yuzu.” It is not ready for use just yet, though the development team seems hopeful that it will get off the ground.

What could have been.

We know that another Super Mario Bros. Movie is on the way (Nintendo confirmed it’s coming in 2026, no less), but that doesn’t mean that we are quite done talking about its predecessor just yet. In fact, there’s something new to look at.

Jed Diffenderfer worked as a story developer and artist on the 2023 Illumination/Nintendo movie, and he has recently uploaded a fresh batch of concept art to his website which shows an initial vision for some of the movie’s memorable moments as well as some sections that didn’t make the cut (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

Speaking to Variety, The Pokémon Company International executives Andy Gose and Taito Okiura are still open to Ash potentially reappearing and “anything is possible”, but for now the focus is on the new story of Liko and Roy in Pokémon Horizons, which made its debut in North America last week.
