Phew – this was a pretty busy week, huh?

To kick off the week, we took you through some of the highlights from Nintendo’s latest financial report for Q3 of fiscal year 2023. This included the rather stupendous new sales milestone for the Switch, with the console now exceeding Game Boy and PlayStation 4 total sales. We also learned that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet had reached twenty million in sales, Splatoon 3 ten million, and Bayonetta 3 one million.

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch OLED Rumour Resurfaces Online

A common link.

Remember that rumoured Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch OLED model that leaked at the end of last year? Well, there’s seemingly been a small but significant discovery.

Twitter account Nintendeal has noticed the symbols featured on the ‘leaked images’ of the rumoured Switch match up with the iconography featured on the Collector’s Edition of the game, which was announced earlier this week during a Nintendo Direct presentation.

Gallery: Here’s Another Look At Pikmin 4, Out On Nintendo Switch This July

Nintendo kicked off its latest Direct broadcast this week with a brand new Pikmin 4 trailer, confirming the Switch title would be arriving on 21st July 2023.

This latest entry will feature a new dog companion named Oatchi (pronounced oat-chee), Ice Pikmin that can freeze enemies and the environment. We’ve now rounded up some additional screenshots. Enjoy!

Nintendo Infographic Showcases Every Game Featured In The February Direct 2023

Count ’em up!

This week’s Nintendo Direct Showcase sure was a big one, huh? There was more footage of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a better look at Pikmin 4, the surprise release of Metroid Prime Remastered and much, much more besides. Now (as is tradition) Nintendo has released an official infographic, showing everything that went down at the event.

Posted on Twitter, Nintendo is putting those aforementioned big hitters at the forefront alongside the upcoming Splatoon 3 DLC, but this isn’t to say that there aren’t goodies to be found on the later rows. We’ve got the surprise reveals of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, as well as all of the titles soon to get an expansion such as Fire Emblem Engage, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Feature: Zelda Companions, Ranked – Who Was Link’s Best Sidekick?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild brought with it myriad changes to Hyrule. Staggering levels of freedom. Plentiful shrines instead of themed dungeons. Link wearing blue instead of green. The Sheikah Slate. Breakable weapons of varying degrees of annoyance, and more. A change not often discussed was Link’s lack of a companion.

Since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link has generally travelled with a buddy that gives him advice — like how to target enemies — along with narrative exposition. In Breath of the Wild, Link adventured alone with only the odd suggestion from his Sheikah Slate, creating a breathtakingly lonely adventure. If what we’ve seen of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is anything to go by, we likely aren’t getting another buddy to travel with.

Dragon Quest Series Producer Leaves Square Enix After 13 Years

Ryota Aomi moves onto a “new journey”.

Dragon Quest series producer Ryota Aomi has announced that he has left Square Enix after working with the company for 13 years.

Sharing the news on Twitter (via Gematsu), the long-time producer — who first worked on Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors while he was working at Genius Sonority — joined Square Enix in 2009. He was the lead producer on the musou spin-offs Dragon Quest Heroes and its sequel, Dragon Quest Heroes II as lead producer, while also helping out on a number of mainline Dragon Quest titles. The Heroes duology has been rereleased as a package on Switch, but in Japan only.

Nintendo Updates Its ‘Switch Online + Expansion Pack’ Trailer With New Footage

Game Boy has arrived & more N64 games are coming.

Nintendo yesterday bolstered its Switch Online + Expansion Pack service with some new retro libraries. Now, following on from this, it appears to have updated its official “overview trailer” for the service in its homeland of Japan. Within it, you can see footage of the Game Boy Advance library.

In addition to this, it’s also shown off some footage of the 2023 wave of N64 titles including games from the Mario Party and Pokémon Stadium series, as well as Excitebike 64. While there’s not much remaining in this original wave of N64 games, it seems they are at least on course for a release in the near future.
