So long, Switch 1.

It’s finally upon us, the last weekend before Switch 2. We have one last chance to throw our backlogs a concerned look before a line-up of launch games gets added to the pile, so let’s go out with one last hurrah, shall we?

You’d think that this week would have been a little ‘quiet before the storm’ vibes, but there’s actually been quite a lot to keep up with. We got the official release date for Pokémon Legends: Z-A (16th October, if you missed it), saw its pre-order goodies and heard about the all-important price. As if that wasn’t enough, TPC confirmed that the next Pokémon Presents showcase will be coming our way in July.

Something or nothing?

Well, here’s a weird listing – Monolith Soft’s Wii U epic Xenoblade Chronicles X has popped up on a Microsoft PC webpage covering “enhanced games for Microsoft Edge Game Assist”.

We’ve taken a look ourselves and can confirm it’s featured. It’s listed alongside PC releases like World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2. Here it is, along with the attached description:

Some other file sizes have also changed.

We’re now less than a week out from the Switch 2 and it seems Nintendo has updated the estimated file size for Mario Kart World.

According to official online listings in the US and Japan, this new open-world entry has been reduced from 23.4GB to 21.9GB. Although the Switch 2 comes loaded with 256GB of internal storage, it’s nice to see Nintendo doing its best to keep file sizes down.

It’s nearly here!

SEGA is keeping the hype train running in the lead up to Switch 2’s release by gradually drip-feeding us more information about its launch titles. Today, Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut is back in the limelight, as we’ve got our first look at the game’s opening movie.

The above footage promises just about as much action as we would expect from the upcoming definitive edition, showcasing some of the tasty visuals and fancy lighting that we can expect to find from the Switch 2.

After four years of service, Square Enix and FuturLab have released the last content update for PowerWash Simulator, titled ‘The Muckingham Files 6’.

Fittingly described as the “final stop” on the PowerWash journey, this free update leaves us with a mucky tube train in need of a scrubbing and the Sculpture Park — a new location where you’ll have to blast away the dirt on a few pieces of artwork. Both of these fresh locales hide a handful of Easter eggs for PowerWash Simulator 2 (which still isn’t confirmed for Switch 2, but we remain hopeful), so be sure to pay attention to the details.

Stronger visuals and faster load times.

Level-5 has released two new videos via its YouTube channel to showcase exactly how Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time has been improved on the Switch 2 (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

It’s pretty self-explanatory stuff here, really. The first video focuses on graphics and performance, showing how Switch 1 and Switch 2 differ while our protagonist is hacking away at a tree. The Switch 2 demonstrates some clear improvements with graphical fidelity and frame rate, with Level-5 even zooming in on the character model to further highlight the stark differences.

Fun with your friends.

SEGA is bringing Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S action to the Switch 2 at launch and while it looks set to offer more of the same, there will be some new features here and there.

The third-party one is still expected.

Microsoft’s gaming division Xbox was reportedly planning to go all-in on handheld gaming with not only a third-party device expected this year but also a first-party product supposedly targeting 2027.

Ahead of the Switch 2 launch next week, the tech giant’s plans have apparently changed. In an exclusive from Windows Central, Microsoft’s priorities are said to be “moving more deeply towards third-party OEM handhelds” right now.

It’s itty-bitty.

While the Switch 2 will be occupying a lot of our time and space over the coming weeks and months, there are still plenty of adorable, relaxing-looking games for us to experience.

Misc. A Tiny Tale is one such game, with cute, tiny robots whose goal it is to spread joy wherever they go. We’ve been following this one for a while, and we’ve finally got a release date for the platformer — 22nd July 2025.
