Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo’s Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

Let’s see how it matches up.

I don’t know about you, but I’m already giving my shelf space a worried look as I consider the number of Switch 2 launch titles I want to pick up.

It’s been just about a week since Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 and its 21 separate launch games (24 if you include those dropping on the NSO GameCube library), which, the more you think about it, is a truly wild number. Just for reference, the only Nintendo consoles that have pulled together a bigger launch line-up are the GBA in Japan (23 releases on day one) and the North American release of the Wii U (29). The big difference is that Switch 2 doesn’t have the crutch of movie tie-ins to pad out its day one roster — no shade to stone-cold classics like the Wii’s Happy Feet there.

Poll: Did You Get A Switch 2 Purchase Invite From Nintendo Yet? (Europe)

The chosen few.

Pre-orders are one thing, but there’s something about lotteries and ‘invitations’ to pre-order hot-item electronics which rubs me the wrong way. “Here, it’s our honour to let you give us hundreds of your hard-earned currency units, you lucky sausage! Gis a card number.”

Still, it’s the name of the game if you’re a Switch 2 fan, and we Europeans should think ourselves lucky that we’re not in the uncertain position of our friends across the Atlantic when it comes to guaranteeing (as much as you can) that there’ll be a new console on your doorstep come 5th June.

Scandinavian Nintendo Fans Are Considering Flying Abroad For Cheaper Switch 2s

DKK Wrap.

For all the excitement of last week’s Direct, Nintendo’s Switch 2 pricing has gone down like a cold cup of something nasty. £75/$80 games, a sizeable bump in cost for the system itself, current economic conditions, and tariffs have melded into the perfect storm, with the once-affordable Nintendo now appearing a little more out of reach.

It’s a problem around the world, but Switch fans in Scandinavia are feeling particularly hard done by the pricing after the region’s main distributor has apparently driven up prices further, leading to some eyeing early-June flights abroad to save some cash on a launch-day Switch 2.

Mario Kart World “Paid DLC” Would Be A Big No-No, According To Ex-Nintendo Duo

Is $80 already enough?

There’s been a lot of talk about the $80 price tag attached to the Switch 2 launch title Mario Kart World and Nintendo has justified it by claiming the game is “so big and so vast”, but what if it ends up charging for additional content in the long run?

Ex-Nintendo Minute duo Kit and Krysta, who now run their own YouTube channel, have touched on the idea of Nintendo potentially demanding even more gold coins in the immediate future for possible Mario Kart World DLC – suggesting it would go against the current messaging:

Some Fans Are Drawing Unfavourable Comparisons Between Switch 2 And Xbox One

Don Mattrick’s infamous quote resurfaces.

The Nintendo Switch 2 pricing reveal hasn’t exactly gone down well, and with the economic instability at the moment, many consumers are frustrated at the price and lack of communication. But as interviews with Nintendo of America reps were published yesterday, one of Doug Bowser’s comments in particular has stuck — and not in a good way.

The president of Nintendo of America spoke to CBC about the negative reaction to the price of the console. As Bowser has done in multiple interviews, he’s justified the price by listing off the new features available, here stating “the pricing is appropriate for the value of the machine and the gameplay experience overall,.”

Community: What Questions About Switch 2 Do You Still Have For Nintendo?

What a difference a Direct makes.

It’s been a busy week for Nintendo and its fans, that’s for sure. With Switch 1 in a definite ‘wind-down’ mode over the past few months — though still delivering goods like Xenoblade Chronicles X, to be fair! — last week’s Switch 2 Direct brought new goods, new faces, but also new questions.

In fact, it’s the lack of clarity around some aspects which has left us feeling a tad more confused than we should about things like game-key cards and NS2 Edition upgrades. There’s contradictory information flying around from customer service agents and official Nintendo Store reps who have presumably been briefed and have an official Q&A doc to hand – but somehow they don’t seem to be on the same page.

UK Switch 2 Fans, Don’t Bother Going To GAME Stores For Your Pre-Order

You won’t get one.

A new report from Eurogamer indicates that Switch 2 pre-orders at GAME retail stores in the UK simply won’t be a thing, with the firm instead possessing a “small allocation” of consoles available via its official website.

It’s yet another indication of how GAME is downsizing its operations after numerous controversial decisions over the last year or two. Most GAME stores have now been moved to concession locations within Sports Direct, another brand firmly in the grip of the wider Frasers Group retail conglomerate.
