With Switch 2 Looming, Nintendo Has Surpassed Another Monster Financial Milestone

Now Japan’s 7th largest business.

Regardless of the drop-off in Switch sales in recent years, we knew that this generation had been a good one for Nintendo’s financials. It has been so good, in fact, that the House of Mario has just surpassed another massive milestone in its latest Japanese market valuation (thanks, NintendoWire).

According to the market capitalisation tracker CompaniesMarketCap, Nintendo has now surpassed the $100 billion line in market valuation. This is the first time that the Big N has reached 12 digits, and, with a current estimated value of $100.16 billion, it’s quickly closing in on the title of the sixth-largest Japanese company in the world — currently held by Fast Retailing on $100.91 billion.

Koroks and Inklings and ‘mon, oh my!

The Nintendo Today! app is back with another tasty little nugget of Switch 2 news, this time showcasing the launch line-up for the console’s profile icons — and it’s a pretty beefy list.

According to the app, Switch 2 will launch with an impressive 258 user profile icons, with series like Zelda, Mario and Pokémon all getting a healthy boost in the avatar department. Highlights will differ depending on your favourite franchises, but we’ll give a shoutout to the three Tears of the Kingdom Koroks to choose between — ya-haha indeed.

Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?

Feeling the squeeze.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on in 2025, it’s that gaming is becoming a pretty expensive hobby. Not that it was ever ‘cheap’, of course, but recent price hikes have caused quite a stir within the community, perhaps most notably that of Mario Kart World on the upcoming Switch 2. With the physical edition set at $80 in the US, £75 in the UK, and €80 in the EU, it’s certainly on the higher end of the scale when it comes to game pricing.

It’s not just Mario Kart World, though – far from it. With the Switch 2 specifically, pretty much everything has gone up in price from the OG Switch. The Joy-Con, the Pro Controller, the dock, the charging grip… In the UK, the new wireless GameCube controller is priced at £58.99 on the My Nintendo Store, making it almost £20 more expensive than the N64 equivalent.

Final Fantasy VII ‘Creator’s Voice’ Implies Rebirth May Also Come To Switch 2

Along with whatever the third game will be called.

Nintendo has released a new Creator’s Voice video, this time focused on Naoki Hamaguchi at Square Enix for the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

Hamaguchi makes a couple of references to the ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake Series’ when talking about the Switch 2, which to us implies that Square Enix may not stop with the first entry. It’s likely, then, that we can probably expect Rebirth and the untitled third game to make their way to Nintendo’s upcoming new hardware in the future.

Former Assassin’s Creed Lead Isn’t Happy About Switch 2’s Game-Key Cards

“I hate it. I think it’s sort of lame”.

An awful lot of talk out of the Switch 2 Direct has focused on the console’s new Game Key Cards, whether they are a good thing for the industry and if anyone will actually buy the damn things. Now, in a new interview with VideoGamer, the Creative Director on Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 4, Alex Hutchinson, has shared his two-pence on the fresh-faced physical option — spoilers, he’s not all that keen.

The dev drew the comparison between the Switch 2 Game Key Cards and the similar approach taken by the Xbox One back in 2013, saying that Nintendo is going to “get away with it,” while fans were quick to criticise Microsoft. “It just shows you the power of nostalgia in our business that the way they will beat up Microsoft versus Nintendo is just not the same, especially in Europe,” Hutchinson stated, “It’s like, ‘oh, Nintendo’s doing it, alright we’re not gonna say much’”.

Monster Boy’s 120fps Update Could Come To Switch 2

Publisher asks fans to show their support.

With the Switch 2 just around the corner, some companies are already considering certain re-releases and updates to their existing eShop titles. It seems FDG Entertainment, the publisher behind Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom on the Switch, is another one.

In a post on social media yesterday, it put the call out to “Switch 2 players” asking if they would like to see an update to the 2018 2D platformer supporting 120fps. In the game’s current state on Switch, it already runs at a “smooth 60fps”, but this could be doubled!
