Oops, Yuji Horii Might May Not Have Leaked Massive Remake News After All

Update: Translator was just having fun with Chrono Trigger.

A remake of a beloved RPG, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is on the way — at least according to Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii.

Yep, the dream remake might be coming — Chrono Trigger is apparently being remade, and Horii-san (who supervised on the 1995 classic) may have accidentally let it slip during a panel at Napoli Comicon. Louvre Says Au Revoir To Nintendo 3DS Audio Guides

“To be replaced by a new system”.

Editorial: Gamers, Support The People And Sites You Love, Before It’s Too Late

Forever.

Well, we’ve come to the end of a week that’s seen the end of two gaming institutions as we’ve known them for many years.

The departure of Dan Ryckert and Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb on Thursday was swiftly followed by news of layoffs at Polygon following the site’s sale to Valnet (owner of Screen Rant). Seeing these top-tier creators and games journalists unceremoniously cast aside has been a shock for anybody who’s followed and enjoyed their work over the years.

But no Switch 2 confirmation yet.

Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on 26th May, 2026.

That’s right, it’s no longer scheduled for this year. Not entirely surprising, to be honest, but at least we have a date now. Obviously, what’s not yet clear at this stage is whether the game is heading for the Nintendo Switch 2. Hopefully we’ll get full confirmation of this pretty soon, though.

The Shire comes to Switch this July.

In case you somehow missed it, we’re getting another Lord of the Rings game, but this one is probably like no other entry you’ve seen in the series before. The “overriding factor” is money.

There have been ongoing requests over the years for the revival of Rare’s famous bear and bird duo Banjo-Kazooie, but will fans ever see this series return?

The game’s composer Grant Kirkhope already spoke about this earlier in the year – mentioning how he had “zero hope” for a new entry, and now in an interview with our friends at Eurogamer recently, he’s elaborated on why he thinks it’s “unlikely” to happen.

Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

Oh boycott.

The death of physical media has been looming for decades now, essentially since the internet made digital downloads a viable option for purchasing games – or purchasing your licences to play games. While Nintendo got involved relatively quickly (for Nintendo, at least) with WiiWare and Virtual Console digital downloads, there’s still always been a strong link between this particular platform holder and the physical article.

And it’s not just the need to provide stocking-fillers for parents and grandparents of a younger-skewing demographic; perhaps Nintendo’s general preference for carts is also a factor. Cartridges have a more substantial, chunky physicality compared to discs – and even when the company went for optical media, the GameCube’s cute 8cm discs and the curved edges of Wii U games injected some personality. Carts, with their unique forms and chip-filled innards, somehow feel more than just a blank medium with some data burned in. Just me?
