Sega Of America Set To Lay Off 61 Employees In March

Confirmed in California WARN notice.

SEGA of America has submitted a notice of layoffs which will affect 61 of its employees on 8th March 2024.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice was submitted earlier this month on 8th January in Orange County, California, and was flagged by the Twitter account @WhatLayoff (via GamesIndustry.biz).

Square Enix Has Absorbed ‘I Am Setsuna’ Developer Tokyo RPG Factory

It worked on three RPG games for Switch.

There’s some industry news coming out of Japan today that Square Enix has absorbed the developer Tokyo RPG Factory.

As part of this, Tokyo RPG Factory will be immediately dissolved and “will cease to exist as an individual entity” (thanks, Gematsu). Tokyo RPG Factory was a subsidiary of Square Enix and was founded by Yosuke Matsuda a decade ago.

The King of the Monsters is making its way to Minecraft in some brand new DLC, available on the Minecraft Marketplace.

The Godzilla DLC is out right now, and what a perfect fit for Minecraft, if we say so ourselves. The idea of the dinosaur-like kaiju stomping around the blocky world of Minecraft is genius, and that’s exactly what it’ll be doing. The DLC has been developed by Japanese studio Team-KYO and Impress and introduces four new gameplay modes that highlight the history of Godzilla and its films.

MLB The Show 24 Reveals “Home Run King” Vladimir Guerrero Jr. As Cover Star

Touches base on Switch in March.

MLB The Show 24 has been announced today, along with its release date. The game will be launching on Switch (and all other platforms) on 19th March 2024, with this year’s cover star revealed to be Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Revealed on PlayStation.Blog and through Nintendo’s Twitter, MLB The Show 24 brings back last year’s acclaimed Storylines mode and also promises to be a feature-rich version of the game, just as MLB The Show 23 was. New features for the latest entry in the series will be revealed on Twitch and YouTube in the run-up to the game’s release.

One of 2023’s indie hits, Gravity Circuit, has today been brought up to speed on Switch with developer Domestic Ant Games bringing the ver. 1.1.0 update over to the hybrid console.

Fans of the action platformer will be pleased to know that this is a big one. Aside from a handful of fixes, tweaks and QoL improvements, the latest update also adds a fresh Boss Rush mode and customisable Armour Paints which can be unlocked for some new abilities.

Random: Sakurai Takes A Stand Against CGI Game Trailers

“Please don’t do that!”.

CGI trailers that refrain from showing any actual gameplay have often been a source of discourse in the video game community. On the one hand, they can be pretty effective in building hype – particularly if it’s for a highly anticipated release – but on the other, they often fail at demonstrating what the game will actually entail regarding its gameplay.

In his latest YouTube video, legendary creator Masahiro Sakurai takes a stand against trailers that don’t show any actual gameplay, stating “In some cases, trailers like the ones seen on a game’s Steam page won’t show any gameplay footage at all – please don’t do that!”.

Call Of Duty Exec Is Appointed As Blizzard’s New President

Following the departure of Mike Ybarra from Blizzard just last week, Microsoft has announced that Johanna Faries has now been appointed as the new President of the formidable subsidiary.

Faries is currently serving as General Manager for the Call of Duty franchise, with her new role at Blizzard effective from February 5th, 2024. She has also held multiple roles at the NFL for over 11 years before joining Activision Blizzard in 2018 as Commissioner for Call of Duty eSports.

You know how Celeste is currently celebrating its 6th anniversary and the official social media account said it was cooking up something small but cool? Well, it’s now been officially revealed as Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain.

It’s a computer game that allows fans to “relive the magic of Celeste Mountain” alongside Madeline in a small, heartful 3D platformer. As you can see this game, created in about a week, draws inspiration from the Nintendo 64 and early 3D era of platformers.
