Random: Waluigi Designer Shares Scrapped Character Art Of “Walpeach”

The concept vetoed by Miyamoto.

Right back at the start of this year, we discovered that after inventing Waluigi, the team behind Mario Tennis, Camelot Software Planning, was planning another ‘Wa’ variant of Princess Peach. It was a shudder-inducing thought, we’ll admit, and one that was rejected by Shigeru Miyamoto before even looking at the designs. But now, those very designs are seeing the light of day.

Fumihide Aoki, the father of Waluigi and character designer on the Mario Tennis GameCube follow-up, Mario Power Tennis, has today shared his initial sketches of “Walpeach”, an evil inversion of the Mushroom monarch that was left on the cutting room floor.

Guide: Best Castlevania Games On Nintendo Consoles

Far from a miserable pile.

In honour of the 35th anniversary (in North America) of the divisive Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest this month, we’re updating and republishing this article rounding up and ranking every Castlevania game in the series on Nintendo consoles.

This was originally ordered by us here at Nintendo Life, but we’ve rejigged things to transform it into a reader-ranked list governed by each game’s User Rating on our games database. Random: Sakurai Wanted The GameCube Controller To Include A Scroll Wheel

“I want to choose fast!”.

Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that during the development of the Nintendo GameCube, he had suggested that a scroll wheel be implemented into the design of the controller.

In his latest YouTube video, Sakurai explains the reasoning behind the suggestion, stating that a scroll wheel might have several useful functions for players. The obvious is that it would allow users to move between menu options quickly and efficiently, but he also noted that it would allow for easy manipulation of an in-game camera, or for choosing between items and abilities.

Featuring Three Musketeers concept art.

We’re all having fun with Super Mario RPG on Switch, right? The return of this SNES classic has brought smiles to our faces with constant reminders of Nintendo at its weirdest, but, according to one Square developer who worked on the original title, it was almost a whole lot weirder.

In 1994, Jiro Mifune had just completed work on Live A Live (which also received a swanky Switch remaster last year) and was just about to get cracking on Chrono Trigger (which, unfortunately, did not) before he was brought onto Super Mario RPG. In the game’s early development, Mifune sketched up several ideas for how the Nintendo mascot might transition into the world of an RPG and guess what, he’s sharing those very sketches on Twitter!
