Japanese Charts: Strong PlayStation Sales Can’t Knock Mario Wonder From The Top Spot

Taking the throne for the fourth week in a row.

The latest Japanese charts are in from Famitsu (via Gematsu) and it has been yet another strong one for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which once again out-jumps the competition to land in the top spot with another 65,017 copies sold.

While Mario’s latest 2D adventure closes in on the one milly mark in Japan, it has been a noticeably good week for PlayStation with the releases of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III hitting both the PS4 and PS5 to dominate the top half of the charts. Like A Dragon’s next-gen launch narrowly misses out on the top spot with 63,319 sales, while Call of Duty’s PS5 release lands in fourth with 22,132.

Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Super Mario RPG

Is it RP-Great?

At the end of the week, Nintendo will release the very last of its 2023 first-party Switch line-up with Super Mario RPG, a faithful remake of the 1996 SNES classic.

Judging from our own review, it looks like Nintendo is closing out the year with a bang, as we’ve awarded the remake a score of 9/10, noting that it “sets a new standard for how to do a faithful remake right”. We highlighted the gorgeous new visuals and soundtrack, the excellent combat, and the post-game content, but noted that it might prove a bit too easy for some.

Paper, Partners, and everything in between.

Mario, the world’s favourite platforming plumber, has done everything — kart racing, tennis, golf, partying, and a little bit of turn-based RPG-ing.
