Round Up: Everything Announced For Super Mario’s 40th Anniversary

As expected, Nintendo spent a good chunk of its latest Direct presentation focusing on the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. with a host of announcements both big and small.

The platforming icon celebrates his big four-zero on 13th September 2025 and, while we didn’t get the brand-new 3D Mario that we were perhaps expecting, we’re quite pleased with the reveals regardless.

Resident Evil Requiem Has Been Officially Confirmed For Switch 2

And it’s not a Cloud Version!

Following recent rumours, Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will launch on the Switch 2 alongside the other platforms on 27th February 2026.

This entry will follow Grace Ashcroft as she investigates mysterious deaths, including that of her mother, RE: Outbreaks Alyssa Ashcroft. The game will also feature the ruined remains of Raccoon City and the R.P.D station.

Pokémon’s Former Chief Legal Officer Believes Nintendo’s Latest Patent Will Be Ignored

“decades of prior art” may give developers the upper hand.

Nintendo’s recent legal activity has caused quite the commotion online. One patent application relating to the summoning of a so-called ‘sub character’ has proven particularly controversial following its swift approval, with the broad nature of its contents having potentially wide ramifications on the games industry.

Now, in speaking with Eurogamer, Don McGowan, former Chief Legal Officer for The Pokémon Company, believes that the patent will likely just be ignored. His belief is that because there are countless examples of existing games utilising a summoning mechanic, Nintendo’s patent simply won’t hold up in court should it choose to launch an infringement lawsuit.

Reminder: Here’s When The Nintendo Direct Starts In Your Time Zone

Well it’s that time again, folks! Nintendo has announced via Nintendo Today! that yet another Direct presentation will be taking place on 12th September 2025 (yes, that’s tomorrow), hot on the heels of the Partner Showcase in July and the Indie World in August.

The showcase is set to kick off at 2pm BST / 3pm CEST / 9am ET / 6am PT and will provide 60 minutes’ worth of news and announcements on games heading to the Switch 2 and Switch.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound Patch Adds 60fps Mode, But There’s A Catch

Dotemu and The Game Kitchen have released a new patch for Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, adding in a whole bunch of new features, fixes, and improvements.

Perhaps most crucially, however, is the addition of a new performance mode targeting 60fps, but there’s a catch… As detailed in Dotemu’s announcement post, the game will default at 30fps on the Switch, while it’s recommended that only those on the Switch 2 activate the 60fps option.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Demo Races Onto Switch Next Week

Sega has dropped some details regarding the demo for the upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
