Opinion: Silksong Might Just Be The Funniest Game Of The Year

Silks and giggles.

It’s very easy not to see the funny side of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Don’t worry, I’ve been there. Something about bashing your head against a boss for the 20th time takes away the giggles a little bit, and that’s okay. But you have to hear me out here: I haven’t laughed this much at a game in a very long time.

It tickles a very Looney Tunes-esque niche that I didn’t realise I still found so funny. There’s none of the surrealism of Thank Goodness You’re Here or the quips of Portal, but if you’re the kind of person who likes watching Wile E. Coyote finally catch Roadrunner only to immediately land a heavy anvil to the noggin, then Silksong has more than enough opportunities to laugh away the pain.

Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 is out this week, and in case you missed it, it comes with all sorts of enhancements. Apart from the resolution boost on the Switch 2, the game also supports the system’s Joy-Con 2 mouse mode feature, which is a welcome bonus.

Fantasy Roguelike ‘Absolum’ Isn’t Out Yet, But It’s Already Getting An Animated Series

Absolumely.

From everything we’ve seen, Dotemu and Guard Crush Games’ fantasy ‘Rogue ’em Up’, Absolum, is shaping up to be a decent slice of stylish fun. It arrives on Switch in just a few weeks on 9th October, but before we get to see the finished product for ourselves, the studios have made a surprise reveal about the original fantasy IP: an animated series is in the works.

The series is set to be developed by animation studio Supamonks, and will set out to “build upon Absolum’s lore and narrative, expanding its universe beyond the game,” the press release reads.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound has received another update following a recent patch to improve the game’s frame rate when played on Switch 2.

This one is more focused on general bug fixes and gameplay improvements, but it’s a welcome update nonetheless. Highlights include fixes to soft-locks and freezing scenarios, collision issues, improved visual consistency, and more.
