Two Epic Games directors step down after US Department of Justice investigate games companies under antitrust laws

Two men on the board of directors for Epic Games have stepped down from their positions after the US Department of Justice investigated the board under antitrust laws. The pair of directors were originally appointed to Epic’s board by Tencent (who slurp upon a minority stake in the Unreal Engine company) but the United States government took a look at this and said: ah-ah-ah, you’re not allowed to have a director in your boardroom if they’re already fingers-deep in the pie of a competing company. Naughty Tencent! Naughty Epic! And, yes, naughty Riot Games!

Star Citizen Has Finally Released Alpha 4.0 ‘After a Much Longer Than Anticipated Development Process’

Star Citizen has finally hit alpha 4.0 after what its chief developer, Chris Roberts, admitted was “a much longer than anticipated development process.”

Cloud Imperium Games’ space sim is considered one of the most controversial projects in all video games. Over the 12 years since its crowdfunding drive began, Star Citizen has been called many things including a scam by those who wonder whether it will ever properly launch. Its virtual space ships, some of which cost hundreds of dollars, are often the focus of criticism.

Indeed, Star Citizen has now raised an eye-watering $767 million, according to figures from CIG. The developer makes revenue publicly available on its website. CIG calls this money “funds raised.”

In March this year, CIG began talking about Star Citizen’s 1.0 launch being within sight, although there’s still no release window for it. 1.0, Roberts has said, “is what we consider the features and content set to represent ‘commercial’ release.”

In a letter from the Chairman post, Roberts said: “Long ago, lost in the mists of time before COVID, at CitizenCon 2949, we showcased the first in-game prototype of traveling from the Stanton System to the Pyro System via a Jump Point.

“After a much longer than anticipated development process, what was teased in 2019 becomes a reality for all players when we launch Star Citizen Alpha 4.0 to the live servers, as part of what we are calling the 4.0 Preview.”

Star Citizen Alpha 4.0 brings with it a full wipe and reset to all accounts. All players start fresh with their account hangars and wallets +20,000 aUEC (Alpha United Earth Credits, Star Citizen’s virtual currency used during the alpha stage). Headline additions include Pyro, the second Star System added to the Star Citizen Universe, the first jump point in the persistent universe, connecting the Stanton and Pyro systems together, an economy overhaul, and much more. Check out the patch notes over on the Roberts Space Industries website.

In October, CIG said that Squadron 42, the standalone, single-player story game set in the Star Citizen universe, launches at some point in 2026, which, if it makes that release window, would be an incredible 14 years after CIG first launched Star Citizen’s crowdfunding drive.

Roberts, known for creating the Wing Commander series, has said Squadron 42 will offer 30-40 hours of gameplay. It stars Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, and Mark Strong.

Random: Balatro Fans Start The Ultimate Debate: Is That Jimbo’s Clown Ruff Or Tiny Body?

We fold.

If a glance at most of our Nintendo Switch Year in Review stats is anything to go by, then more than a few of us have spent a good bit of time with Balatro this year. We’ve spent so long with it, in fact, that its iconography is pretty much burned into our minds by this point. It sure would be a shame if one joke tweet made us see the whole thing differently, huh?

Well, we’re sorry, but that’s exactly what has happened. It all started with a tweet by @JacobJanerka, who shared that he sees the game’s mascot, Jimbo, not as a clown wearing a blue ruffle collar but as a guy with a giant head wearing a blue jumpsuit — it’s the KFC Colonel all over again

Pokémon TCG Pocket Kicks Off Mythical Island PvP Event Today

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has released its third player-versus-player event today, December 20, which awards Emblems based on the Mythical Island expansion.

The Mythical Island Emblem Event follows the same format as the first PvP event released for the digital trading card game, simply challenging players with racking up 45 total wins over three weeks to obtain the best rewards. The event ends on January 10.

Players can obtain Pack Hourglasses just for competing in the event, however. Three are rewarded for participating in one battle and three battles, six are rewarded for participating in five, and 12 are rewarded for participating in 10.

Shinedust is on offer for those who win battles: one win rewards 50, three rewards 100, five rewards 200, 10 rewards 500, 25 rewards 1,000, and 50 rewards 2,000. Players will also obtain Emblems for winning, earning a white emblem for one win, a bronze emblem for five wins, a silver emblem for 25 wins, and a gold emblem for 45 wins.

Mythical Island arrived as the first major expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket and with it came a meta shake up. Pikachu ex appears to have fallen off a little thanks to a number of cards being added which appear designed specifically to take it down, while Mewtwo ex received a subtle boost.

Celebi ex has also emerged as a new threat to the meta, but now the initially overlooked Mew ex is also entering the spotlight.

Pokémon TCG Pocket arrived October 30 and is a certified hit for developer Creatures Inc. and The Pokémon Company, having earned an estimated $200 million in its first month across more than 60 million downloads.

This huge amount of money comes as Pokémon TCG Pocket follows the standard mobile and free to play game model, flooding players with rewards in the first few days before soon drying up, with spending real world money the only real way to re-experience that early thrill outside of the occasional set drop like Mythical Island.

Completing Genetic Apex, the first set of cards which totals 226 officially but also contains 60 rare alternate art cards, will take players not spending money around two years according to one estimate, while those looking to make it rain can wrap up the collection after dropping around $1,500.

Sorry, But There Are “Currently No Plans” For A Unicorn Overlord Sequel Or DLC

But there’s still hope…

Vanillaware’s tactical RPG Unicorn Overlord is one of the Switch highlights this year, and if you’re hoping for more adventures in the form a sequel or even DLC, you might want to read on…

Sadly, it won’t be happening (at least right now). Speaking to GamesRadar+, the game’s director Takafumi Noma says he’s aware of how many players have “expressed a wish” for this type of content, but there are “currently no plans” for further development.

Nintendo Veteran Don James To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

“My career has truly been a wild and fun ride”.

While it’s common to associate Nintendo’s legacy with big names such as Satoru Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie Fils-Aimé, there are plenty of other important people who helped make the company and brand what it is today.

As part of this legacy, Nintendo veteran and industry visionary Don James – who joined Nintendo of America in 1981 and retired earlier this year – will be recognised at the 28th D.I.C.E Awards by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences with a lifetime achievement award.

Post Trauma Reimagines Old School Horror on Xbox in 2025

Summary

  • Confront unspeakable horrors in Post Trauma.
  • Haunting, atmospheric soundtrack from Nicolas Gasparini (Myuu).
  • Fully voice-acted cast including Togo Igawa as Roman.

While it’s almost time to say farewell to 2024, with a new year on the horizon comes an undiscovered, terrifying and twisted reality to explore.

In 2025, Post Trauma launches on Xbox, bringing a whole host of unimaginable nightmares along for the ride.

Post Trauma comes from the imagination ofRoberto Serrag and Red Soul Games, designed as a celebration of classic horror titles like Silent Hill and Resident Evil.

Built with Unreal Engine 5, Post Trauma is set in recognizable environments – such as an abandoned hospital and a neglected Metro – within “The Gloom” and depicts them in unusual, but suitably horrendous ways. Whether its tentacles creeping through the walls, ghastly creatures lurking in the shadows, or buildings that could collapse at a moment’s notice, it’s anyone’s guess what’s around the next corner.

At the heart of it all is Roman (voiced by Togo Igawa), a retired train driver who awakes to find himself dazed, bewildered, and haunted by all he can see.Alongside voice acting, Red Soul Games also use Motion Capture so that Roman’s facial reactions and movements feel natural and authentic, really bringing the character to life. The way he reacts to the horror all around him and processes this fantastical, wild world, really grounds Post Trauma. As a result, players will truly be able to see what Roman is thinking and feeling throughout the game.

Post trauma character

Much of the horror in Post Trauma comes from setting a scene and building tension rather than going in for quick jump scares. Post Trauma’s soundtrack plays an important role in this with moody piano solos softly building in the background while Roman moves along train tracks and corridors. Then during battles and confrontations, the beat kicks in to reach heart-pounding crescendos.

As you continue to explore the environment and uncover its secrets and inhabitants, it  will be important to pay close attention to every scenic detail as theymay hold clues to some of the game’s trickier puzzles. Perhaps a pad and paper could come in handy, too.

The Gloom is a dangerous place , and there are times Roman will need to defend himself in life or death situations. Fortunately, there’s a variety of items at your disposal, like an all-powerful sledgehammer and a trusty crowbar. Roman will even find a pistol and a shotgun on his travels and can store them on his person or in chests found in safe spaces. Every little bit of room will help!

As with all good Survival Horror games, though, this is a game that changes the questions just as you’re discovering the answers. We can’t wait for players to unearth its secrets when Post Trauma launches in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S. Wishlist it today!

Post Trauma

Raw Fury

Post Trauma is a modern interpretation of genre-defining survival horror classics. As you venture deeper into the unknown, you’ll strive to solve the mysteries of your unfamiliar surroundings, hoping to discover hidden truths while trying to stay alive.

Players will explore a terrifying, twisted reality that constantly unsettles as its story shifts and unravels.

Fight or Flight?

In Post Trauma, players control Roman (Togo Igawa), a tormented train conductor who awakes to find himself in a surreal dimension following a terrible panic attack. Faced with horrifying architecture and nightmarish abominations, Roman can choose to defend himself with an array of weapons or try to find the path of least resistance.

A new world of horror that pays homage to the greats

Inspired by key staples of the Survival Horror genre, Post Trauma blends fixed camera angles with stunning visuals through Unreal Engine 5 to create a truly unsettling, yet familiar horror experience. But just when you think you have the answers, this hellscape changes the questions as you enter the unknown to face your greatest fears.

Can you find a way home?

To survive this cruel world, you must piece together an ongoing mystery across several, seemingly unrelated settings. Deducing your environments to find unlikely hints and discovering precious tools in unexpected places will help you make continued progress.

As you find clues and solve puzzles, you’ll gradually learn more about where you are and how you can escape, using a delicate mix of patience and cunning to stay alive. And maybe a pad and paper too.

Built and enriched by world-class talent

Featuring a fully voice acted cast (Togo Igawa, Autumn Ivy, Hyoie O’Grady) and a captivating, ambient audioscape, elevated by a hypnotic score from Nicolas Gasparini (Myuu), Post Trauma has been crafted to be a homage to beloved franchises and a new merging of playstyles. The intent is to create a truly special, unforgettable horror experience fuelled by pure passion and incredible talent.

Sonic The Hedgehog Will Be Back For A Fourth Movie

Is anyone surprised?

We’re just one day away from the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie — which introduces Shadow the Hedgehog to the blockbuster franchise — hitting cinemas worldwide. But Variety is reporting that Paramount Pictures has already greenlighted a fourth film.

Shocked? Nope, not us. According to the report, the movie is aiming for a Spring 2027 release. We know nothing else yet, but given that director Jeff Fowler has stuck around for the first three movies, we wouldn’t be surprised if he’s also on board for a fourth run.
