Talking Point: Do You Have A New Go-To Racer In Mario Kart World?

Cowtastrophe.

After the best part of a decade with Mario Kart 8, we’d wager that you had probably grown pretty close to your main. You know, your main. The character that you picked to sit behind the wheel, regardless of the situation, because their weight class, look, or general vibe matched your playstyle perfectly.

But then Mario Kart World came along and shook those mains up. A new batch of racers have been added to the mix, but a huge batch have also fallen off the roster (pour one out for the Koopaling mains out there). After two weeks of open-world racing, huge swathes of us have found ourselves pivoting to a new racer, either drawn in by the shiny new faces, or rebounding from the loss of our go-to picks.

Switch 2 Has Already Overtaken The Combined Lifetime Sales Of The Entire Xbox Series Family And PS5 Pro In Japan

You could say it’s off to a good start, then.

The Switch 2 is off to an amazing start all over the world, but in Japan, its success has been especially remarkable; it’s already the fastest-selling console in the nation’s history, outperforming even the mighty PS2.

With 947,931 consoles sold at launch, the Switch 2 overtook the 630,552 set by Sony’s second PlayStation. We now have the console’s second-week figures in, which make for some interesting reading. The hybrid system’s first-week momentum has slowed, as you might expect, but it has now sold 1,101,136 systems in its homeland.

Random: Lies of P Developer Rewarded With Switch 2 Console Bonus

Fans are already calling for a Switch 2 port.

It’s been a difficult year for the video game industry at times, but there are still plenty of success stories out there and the latest one is a sales milestone for the Lies of P developer Round8 Studio.

While we don’t have anything to report here about a Switch 2 release (at least for now), according to South Korean publication The Elec (via VGC), Korean publisher Neowiz is rewarding every member of the local development team with Nintendo’s brand-new system after the success of the new DLC ‘Overture’ and more than three million cumulative sales.

Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Donkey Kong Bananza’s Switch 2 File Size

Make some space for DK (and Pauline).

Nintendo shared all sorts of new information about Donkey Kong Bananza during the title’s Direct earlier this week.

According to updated listings, Nintendo has been able to work its magic and reduce the game’s file size from 10GB down to 8.5GB. It’s not all that much, but given the size of various other titles on the Switch 2, we’re sure many users will appreciate the extra space.

Opinion: I Never Felt True Nostalgia Until I Played GameCube On Switch 2

Ahh, memories.

I still remember the day I got my GameCube. It wasn’t the launch day, because I remember getting Super Smash Bros. Melee alongside it, which to my knowledge released a few weeks after the console itself in the UK.

Oh gosh, I was so excited though! I poured over early issues of NGC in the weeks leading up to The Big Day (somehow, there were already about six or seven issues before the console even released), perhaps most notably while on a family holiday in Cyprus, clutching the magazine while my Mum tried to get me to focus on the sights and sounds of the Limassol coastline. No Mum… I’m reading about Link’s Melee moveset for the hundredth time, thanks.

Reminder: You Can Use Non-Nintendo USB Cameras With Switch 2

And it appears some USB-A cameras work, too.

Check out the official details for Switch 2 USB camera compatibility on Nintendo’s website and you’ll be greeted with a surprisingly straightforward message from the Big N stating that, “You can use the Nintendo Switch 2 camera accessory (sold separately) or any compatible USB-C camera you’d like.” Nice!

Of course, the reality is that nothing is ever quite so easy; Nintendo does qualify that some cameras may not work and you’ll need to use the handy compatibility test found in the new console’s settings. This is great, but not much use when you haven’t bought the camera yet.

Random: Switch 2 Ad Claims Metroid Prime 4 Is “Out Now”

We’ll take a shadow drop, Nintendo.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond doesn’t even have a proper release date just yet, but according to a Switch 2 ad located at the Oxford Circus tube station in London, it’s apparently “out now”.

Before anyone suggests it’s a photoshop, the fine folks at VGC have actually seen it with their very own eyes. The same outlet notes how there is a similar “out now” ad for Mario Kart World alongside it, but the Metroid banner appears to be jumping the gun here.
