Nintendo Prioritising Switch 2 Dev Kits For Indies Needing “Extra Oomph”, Say Devs

“a similar situation to the OG Switch”.

As we all know by now, the Switch 2 has been off to a rocket of a start in terms of its hardware sales, however, with regards to its current games lineup — and with a particular eye on its indie offerings — there’s certainly been quite a bit of heavy-lifting done by Mario Kart World in these early days and weeks.

If you’d been expecting a few more Switch 2 indie offerings at this point, though, you aren’t alone, and there’s at least a reason for the relatively slow-going in these early days. Speaking with GamesIndustry.Biz, a bunch of indie devs have been explaining the pre-launch dev kit access situation, with some getting their hands on the necessary tech ages ago, whilst others are still waiting.

Nintendo’s Strict Policy On MiG Carts Is Creating A Problem For Secondhand Switch 2 Buyers

Bricking it.

As we reported last week, Nintendo has been banning Switch 2 consoles from using online services if it finds them to be using MiG carts, effectively ‘bricking’ the new consoles by denying them any online access whatsoever.

Nintendo has seemingly decided to come down tough on this issue for its new generation of system, with social media and internet forums slowly coming alive with users who’ve been faced with an “Error Code: 2124-4508” message. However, a potential knock-on effect is that the secondhand market for Switch 2 consoles may be becoming a bit of a dodgy death run for those seeking a cheaper option on Nintendo’s new hardware.

Digital Foundry Is “Happy” With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is “Problematic”

Display has “blurring characteristics that are easily worse than the 2017 Switch’s display”.

The tech boffins over at Digital Foundry have delivered their final verdict on Switch 2, and it’s mostly positive—but the console’s LCD screen has been found wanting.

In his review, Digital Foundry boss and games media veteran Richard Leadbetter says that, overall, he’s “happy” with Nintendo’s new hybrid system:

Back Page: Every Game Should Have A Cow

No bull.

In the magazine business, the Back Page is where you’d find all the weird goofs that we couldn’t fit in anywhere else. Some may call it “filler”; we prefer “a whole page to make terrible jokes that are tangentially related to the content of the mag”.

We don’t have pages on the internet, but we still love terrible jokes — so welcome to our semi-regular feature, Back Page.

Forget Switch 2 Game Key-Cards – “Full On-The-Cart Physical Releases” Are What People Want, Says Publisher Lost In Cult

“We can make it work for you”.

It’s fair to say that Switch 2 Game-Key Cards haven’t gone down all that well with consumers.

While Japanese video game consultancy firm Kyos Inc insists that publishers are “thanking Nintendo” for the move following rising production costs of physical media, others are less keen on them; almost 70% of you said you wouldn’t be buying Game-Key Card releases, and many companies within the industry have said they dislike the approach.

Talking Point: Do You Have A New Go-To Racer In Mario Kart World?

Cowtastrophe.

After the best part of a decade with Mario Kart 8, we’d wager that you had probably grown pretty close to your main. You know, your main. The character that you picked to sit behind the wheel, regardless of the situation, because their weight class, look, or general vibe matched your playstyle perfectly.

But then Mario Kart World came along and shook those mains up. A new batch of racers have been added to the mix, but a huge batch have also fallen off the roster (pour one out for the Koopaling mains out there). After two weeks of open-world racing, huge swathes of us have found ourselves pivoting to a new racer, either drawn in by the shiny new faces, or rebounding from the loss of our go-to picks.
