Review: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – An Excellent Port Of A Timeless Classic

A dark night for Onion Knight fans?

Final Fantasy Tactics is probably, all things considered, my favourite Final Fantasy. As someone who isn’t really a huge video game lore person at the best of times, as in I forget most of it because my brain needs the storage space for memories of food, in my eyes it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best in the mainline series.

This is a game that gives me the tight, strategic combat fix that I want, you see, whilst delivering a world, characters and story that fit into the overall Final Fantasy vibe incredibly well, without requiring a degree in finalising all known fantasies to understand or fully enjoy. The narrative, which sees you slip into the shoes of Ramza Beoulve as he drops nobility for rebellion, is an epic one, make no mistake. It’s got all the twists and turns you’d expect, and a few more besides, making it easier to get into the groove of.

HORI’s New Licensed Switch 2 Pad Brings A Pop Of Colour, But It’s Missing Some Key Features

No wires, no problems.

Accessory manufacturer HORI has lifted the lid on its latest licensed Switch 2 controller, the Wireless HORIPAD Turbo. It’s a colourful affair, with an overall design that looks uncannily close to Nintendo’s official offering, but there are a couple of caveats that stop it from quite toppling the mighty Pro Controller.

But let’s start with the positives. The Wireless HORIPAD Turbo boasts TMR sticks to reduce chances of the dreaded drift, full gyro control, mappable face and back buttons, a C Button, and a neat ‘Button Lock’ function to prevent you from accidentally hitting any of the middle buttons (+, -, Home and Screenshot) during particularly sweaty online matches. It also comes with its own HORI Button in the middle, which can be used for rapid inputs and setting up profile preferences.

Review: Agatha Christie – Death On The Nile (Switch) – Monsieur Poirot Shimmies Into The ’70s In Style

Pyramid scheme.

Isn’t it comforting to settle in with a good book that you already know? Microids certainly seem to hope so, as their Studio Lyon is snuggling yet another Christie classic right into your Switch.

A follow-up to 2023’s Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile may not be as big as that choo-choo colossus, but it nearly is. So, Studio Lyon has brought the same challenge upon itself: how can a classic this classic be made to feel fresh? And how can you make a mystery game when so many of the audience are already expecting the solution? Luckily, the devs hit upon a formula for it last time, and now it’s back with bells and whistles.

Switch 2 Gets Its Flowers At The Japan Game Awards 2025

As if there was any doubt.

Switch 2 has been a huge deal since it launched, and at last night’s Japan Game Awards, the console was recognised for its monumental achievements so far.

Nintendo’s latest hardware took home the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the 2025 ceremony. It’s a long and somewhat confusing title, but the basic gist is that it’s an award given to an individual, production team, organisation or project that has notably contributed to the games industry in recent years.

Classic Mech Anime And Tactical Card Combat Collide In ‘Battle Chef Brigade’ Dev’s New RPG

Arriving on Switch next month.

If you cast your mind back to the early days of the Switch eShop, before the storefront was swamped by slop and rip-offs, you might recall Battle Chef Brigade — a weird fusion of cooking sim and action RPG all wrapped up in a sweet anime-inspired art style. It was a lovely little game from developer Trinket Studios, and what do you know, the team is back with something that looks equally intriguing.

Battle Suit Aces is a sci-fi RPG that mixes the bold visuals of old-school mech anime with some particularly deep-looking card combat. It boasts the same visual style as its predecessor and another interesting mash-up of gameplay styles

Rumour: New Zelda LEGO Set Rumour Links It To Fan Favourite Entry

Hey, listen!

Lego released its first Zelda-themed Lego set last year after ongoing rumours, which turned out to be accurate. Now, in an update, there’s a new rumour doing the rounds about the next set in this particular series.

Instead of a hybrid set bringing together two different games, this next one is rumoured to be based solely on Link’s N64 outing, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. According to a story from BrickTap (via Brick Fanatics), it will be a Ganondorf Diorama.
