Many libraries offer services where you can experience and even borrow video games. Unfortunately, a 45-year-old Oakland man named Jamal Reed-Obafumi has been arrested after being accused of stealing “approximately $10,000 worth” of Nintendo Switch video games from Marin County Libraries, located in Northern California.

Marin County’s Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Reed-Obafumi last week after he was “connected to a string of at least seven different burglaries of Marin County Libraries”. This took place between April and June 2025 across multiple branches.

Apart from the new free roam mode in Mario Kart World, Nintendo’s latest kart racing outing also brings a new racing mode known as ‘Knockout Tour’. In case you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically Mario Kart’s take on the battle royale genre, where it’s the last kart standing as racers are eliminated after each section of the course.

It’s now almost been one month since the new entry hit the track and it’s got us wondering how much success our community has had so far in this new mode. Have you won a race yet? As we all know by now, the Switch 2 has been off to a rocket of a start in terms of its hardware sales, however, with regards to its current games lineup — and with a particular eye on its indie offerings — there’s certainly been quite a bit of heavy-lifting done by Mario Kart World in these early days and weeks.

If you’d been expecting a few more Switch 2 indie offerings at this point, though, you aren’t alone, and there’s at least a reason for the relatively slow-going in these early days. Speaking with GamesIndustry.Biz, a bunch of indie devs have been explaining the pre-launch dev kit access situation, with some getting their hands on the necessary tech ages ago, whilst others are still waiting.

Bricking it.

As we reported last week, Nintendo has been banning Switch 2 consoles from using online services if it finds them to be using MiG carts, effectively ‘bricking’ the new consoles by denying them any online access whatsoever.

Nintendo has seemingly decided to come down tough on this issue for its new generation of system, with social media and internet forums slowly coming alive with users who’ve been faced with an “Error Code: 2124-4508” message. However, a potential knock-on effect is that the secondhand market for Switch 2 consoles may be becoming a bit of a dodgy death run for those seeking a cheaper option on Nintendo’s new hardware.

Display has “blurring characteristics that are easily worse than the 2017 Switch’s display”.

The tech boffins over at Digital Foundry have delivered their final verdict on Switch 2, and it’s mostly positive—but the console’s LCD screen has been found wanting.

In his review, Digital Foundry boss and games media veteran Richard Leadbetter says that, overall, he’s “happy” with Nintendo’s new hybrid system:

The “gnarly remake” adds multiple new parks.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 revives two more classics next month, but that’s not all! In case you missed it, it’s also adding a new pinball-themed park to the series featuring the Birdman himself.

This is one of multiple new parks “joining the lineup of original parks” in this upcoming title, due out for the Switch and Switch 2 on 11th July 2025. To build up the excitement, Activision and Iron Galaxy have now released a new trailer showcasing this park in motion. Here’s what you can expect along with some of the inspiration behind this design:

SpongeBob and friends join the race.

Following character leaks earlier this month, Sega has now officially confirmed SpongeBob SquarePants and other Nickelodeon characters will be racing alongside Sonic and friends in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds when it arrives this September.

This news was shared during the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. SpongeBob (and Patrick Star) will be part of the game’s season pass and will be joined by characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Avatar universe. This extends to themed vehicles and tracks.
