Beating the PS4’s record with the help of Mario Kart.

Following Nintendo’s news about the Switch 2 becoming the “fastest-selling Nintendo hardware” ever in the US, we’ve now got some numbers to go with it, courtesy of Circana’s analyst Mat Piscatella.

According to Piscatella, this is an “all-time launch week unit sales record for video game hardware in the US”, with “over 1.1 million units sold” (week ending June 7, 2025). The previous record was held by Sony’s PlayStation 4, and the sales calculated here for the Switch 2 exclude My Nintendo Store purchases.

Who knew it was a big thing?

We’re not sure how or when including old tech in your brand new controllers became something to be boasting about, especially when it’s Bluetooth technology that’s been around since the early noughties, but that’s where we’re at with the Switch 2’s wake-up function currently.

Now, we all know by now that it’s a bit of a pain that the original Switch Pro Controller, very surprisingly, doesn’t support the ability to wake up Nintendo’s new console, which is just daft, let’s be brutally honest. Nobody wants to fork out the price of a Pro 2 Controller just for this function (not in this economy!).

A preem dream?

Digital Foundry has posted its tech review for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Switch 2, putting the game through its paces to see just how the main story and Phantom Liberty expansion hold up on Nintendo’s new console.

To start, DF notes that the inclusion of Phantom Liberty itself is pretty remarkable given that developer CD Projekt Red opted to skip PS4 and Xbox One, favouring the beefier hardware seen in current-gen systems. The fact that the Switch 2 is able to handle this at all is commendable, but it should be said that this is where the hardware struggles the most.

The journey began with Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, a charming fantasy that required solo players to coordinate both thumbs to control two characters simultaneously. The studio then progressed to A Way Out, a jailbreak caper that introduced several clever mechanics for two players, including the now-standard Friend’s Pass system (more on that later). Leave it to Nintendo to put a mechanic into a game that can be used in lots of ‘unintended’ ways. Then leave it to the typical Nintendo fan to figure out how to mess with it almost immediately.

Yes, just as we are routinely amazed by what players come up with in the likes of Tears of the Kingdom, it’s taken very little time for them to start doing things to Mario’s fancy new rewind feature in Mario Kart World – which, when playing offline, allows you to cycle back through a race by holding down on your D-pad, then resume from where you paused.

Street Fighter 6 launched for the Switch 2 last week and if you’ve been wanting to throw your support behind this particular version of the game, but aren’t confident it will be supported on the same level as other platforms, we’ve got some good news.

As highlighted by EventHubs, the Nintendo version has been declared tournament legal, which means the Switch 2 version is now officially acceptable for online and offline tournaments according to Capcom’s Pro Tour website. This update originally came into effect on 9th June, just days after the release of the game on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.

Breaking records in less than a week.

Earlier this week, Nintendo shared its first official sales data for the Switch 2 – confirming the new hybrid system had sold “over 3.5 million units worldwide” in just the first four days, making it the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within this amount of time.

Now, in an update, the video game firm has revealed this new device is also the “fastest-selling Nintendo hardware in the US” in four days. This was reported by IGN – with the outlet also told “Switch 2 sales in all regions were approximately twice those of the Nintendo Switch 1 across both consoles’ first four days on the market”. Nintendo has not provided specific sales figures for this region.

Nippon Ichi Software has announced that it will be launching Disgaea 7 Complete in Autumn 2025 on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Originally released in 2023 as Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless, a Complete Edition launched exclusively in Japan the following year on Switch, PS5, and PS4. A Western release wasn’t confirmed at the time, and now it seems that this is exclusive to the Switch 2.
