Earlier this week, Nintendo detailed its free update for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. This update for the Zelda-themed Musou is now officially available on the Switch 2.

Nintendo has shared the official patch notes on its website, and it highlights all the new features (including new quests, weapons, new Sync Strikes, battles) and also details various “improved features” and “fixed issues”, which should make the overall experience more enjoyable.

Game Boy and GB Color titles first arrived on Nintendo Switch Online in February 2023, pleasing many old-school gamers in the process. The various Game Boys — the OG, Pocket, and Color — have a vast library of excellent games, the best of which hold up very well, so seeing some of those gems on Switch is a real treat.

The need for seed.

When you think of platformers, you likely think of Super Mario Bros. When you think of JRPGs, you likely think of Final Fantasy. When you think of FPS, you likely think of Call of Duty. Some games are just synonymous with their respective genres. And when it comes to tower defence games, what comes to my mind immediately is Plants vs Zombies.

Plants vs Zombies: Replanted is exactly what it says on the tin. Zombies are invading and the only hope against them is a crop of… well, crops. You’ll need to plant an entire plant army to prevent the zombie hoard from entering your home. It’s a simple, if not rather iconic, premise.

Nintendo of America announced its Black Friday plans a few weeks back and, unsurprisingly, there was very little in the way of Switch 2 discounts to be seen. Other storefronts have followed suit, and while it’s hardly a flood of savings on the new console, there are a few different options if you want to pick up the latest tech and save some pennies in the process.

Growing the garden.

Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted didn’t get off to the best start when it launched on the Switch and Switch 2 in October, but the development team at PopCap Studios has been working around the clock to squash all of the bugs and improve the title with all sorts of updates.

If you’ve been wondering what’s next for the Switch Online’s ‘Nintendo Classics’ service, the November update is now available.

This latest update includes NES and Game Boy titles, with a total of four more games added to the service today. On the NES, there’s Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos and Battletoads, and on the Game Boy, retro enthusiasts can look forward to Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters and Bionic Commando.

So long, dear SBLJ.

Super Mario 64 might be one of the most popular speedrun games of all time, and it’s still absolutely huge. You’d think runners would know absolutely everything about this almost-30-year-old game, but recently, a brand new trick was discovered that will potentially change the nature of speedruns, particularly the 1 Star Speedrun, forever.

Bubzia, a speedrunner who specialises in blindfolded speedruns, has documented the discovery of this new technique that has essentially wiped out one of the most famous skips in the game, the side backwards long jump (SBLJ, as it’s more commonly known), which is used to skip the 30-star door in the basement of Peach’s Castle. It’s incredibly tricky to pull off but it’s been a staple in the community for years.

No reason to be losing it in the attic right now, dad!

Now, as we all know, sometimes Nintendo is gonna Nintendo. You know what we mean. It likes to do things its own way, does the Big N, and so it goes with the Switch 1 & 2, their game-sharing capabilities, Virtual Cards and all that good stuff.

But, given how confusing all this stuff can get, it’s easy to get frustrated when all you want to do is play Super Mario Bros. Wonder on your Switch, but your sister or your aunt current has it on their Switch. And there’s a clip making the rounds on social media (some strong language here, so watch at your discretion) which runs into a similar problem — one Switch is in storage, but the other, the one Solidrev is trying to use, can’t play a game because the Virtual Card is loaded on the other console.

Happy Thanksgiving from Zelda and co.!

Just three weeks after its release, Nintendo is already bringing more goodies to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment later this week in the form of a free update.

Available on 27th November 2025, the update will add new weapons, a brand new Sync Strike for Zelda and fan-favourite Korok Calamo, and other goodies. Being typically coy there, Nintendo! The game already has a ton to unlock, including maxing out characters and finding all of those pesky Koroks, even if it’s a little brisker than Age of Calamity.
