This review was originally published in January 2015. We’re updating and republishing it to mark the arrival of GP Legend (and Climax, which was never released in the West) in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack GBA library.

The F-Zero series has often dished out a steep challenge, and in GP Legend the uninitiated will be given no quarter unless they dig in their heels and learn the ropes. You’re expected to tame every brutal hairpin, memorise each risky shortcut, and etch sweet boosting spots into your brain if you are to succeed.

Yuji Horii reveals.

Apart from the return of Dragon Quest III this November, Square Enix is also planning on reviving Dragon Quest I & II as a special HD-2D Remake. For heroes planning on playing through these titles in the true chronological order, it seems you’ll be rewarded with a little bit extra at the end.

Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, the series’ creator Yuji Horii apparently hinted at how the first two titles would include some additional elements including a “new discovery” and a “bit of a surprise” (Famitsu via Automaton).

Gameplay and visuals look sublime.

Nintendo has released a brand-new overview trailer for Mario & Luigi: Brothership, showcasing a wonderful evolution of both visuals and mechanics since the last iteration in 2018 for the 3DS.

We’ve already gone hands-on with the upcoming game, which is scheduled to launch on 7th November 2024, so be sure to check that out if you’re after a more comprehensive breakdown of what to expect. The recent release of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will have had many Switch owners pondering the robustness of their control setup; as much as we like the console’s Joy-Con and Pro Controller offerings, they’re not exactly ideal for the intense nature of one-on-one fighting games.

That’s where Hori’s Fighting Commander for Nintendo Switch comes in. The latest in a long line of similar pads created by the Japanese company, this controller has been designed with competitive brawlers in mind.

From Concordia, with love.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership is right around the corner and we are excited. We’ve been lucky enough to go hands-on with the latest entry in the wacky RPG series and we came away with 15 minutes of crisp new gameplay footage for you to see the Bros. back in action.

The above clips are taken from an early section of the game, showcasing two different islands that Mario & Luigi set out to save in the hopes of reuniting the fractured nation of Concordia. You’ll see a decent amount of overworld exploring, some of the turn-based battles with the iconic Bro-specific button inputs and a peppering of the dry humour that we so loved in the series’ GBA and DS titles.

Bringing eFootball to the eMasses.

Now here’s a move that we didn’t expect. Following the split from EA, FIFA has announced that it is partnering with one-time rival Konami on a new eSports collaboration.

To be clear, this isn’t to say that Konami will be taking over the FIFA license, nor that the studio’s current football series, eFootball (formally PES), will be getting a rebrand. Instead, the purpose of this collaboration is to “further boost the joy of the global football community through esports”. M-hmm.

Dear mother can you hear me gaming?

Good grief, first alarm clocks and now this… Rock band Green Day has announced that it is releasing ‘Dookie Demastered’, a collection of extraordinarily unique items that play individual tracks from the band’s iconic 1994 album Dookie.

The items are available to purchase in the US, but only via a limited draw; so essentially you’re free to order however many you like, but you could very well end up with none. Items include a floppy disk (Having a Blast), a doorbell (Longview), and a Big Mouth Billie Bass (Basket Case), but what really caught our attention is a genuine Game Boy cartridge that plays the entirety of Welcome to Paradise.
