Lore of the Swings.

From the moment Nintendo revealed Pauline’s presence in Donkey Kong Bananza, I knew one thing for certain: I was going to be writing a feature on the DK timeline in the next two months.

Look, you know I love Bananza. DK and Pauline have such a wholesome little relationship, I adored hearing the same senile rant from Cranky on each and every layer, and the little nods to the great ape’s previous endeavours were perfectly balanced. It felt like a wall-to-wall celebration of all things DK while also serving as an introduction to the modern age of 3D platforming for one of Nintendo’s oldest characters.

It’s Nintendo’s Indie World, we’re all just living in it.

Nintendo is going absolutely crazy as tomorrow, 7th August 2025, we’re getting our second video game showcase for the Switch 2 and Switch. And it’s an Indie World.

Indie World showcases are always a nice surprise, and given that this is the first for the Switch 2 gen, we might well be seeing a little more Mouse Mode in action — or, quite literally, mice.

Slow and steady.

Japanese automotive manufacturer Honda has unveiled the Pokémon Koraidon motorbike during the Suzuka 8 Hours motorcycle endurance race on Sunday, and uh… Well, it looks about as elegant as you could reasonably expect.

The vehicle is aided by the Honda Riding Assist system, which means it’s able to operate and move independently. You can check this out in the video below, but don’t expect blistering speeds out of this one. The bike is equipped with stabilisers, presumably to simply keep it upright, but it’s moving at an almost laughably slow speed.

Japan’s largest speedrunning event, RTA, is set to kick off later this week on 9th August, and will see some of the speediest gamers in the biz ploughing through the likes of Cuphead, Nier: Automata and Skyrim, all in aid of Doctors Without Borders. We learnt a few months ago that Nintendo games would not be included in the lineup, and now the RTA group has explained why (thanks for the heads up, Eurogamer).

In a new post shared on the RTA website (and translated by Automaton), the event organisers explain that they were contacted by Nintendo back in June, informing them that “as a legal entity, they would have to ask for permission in advance” if they wanted to feature any Nintendo game in the event. What’s more, the Big N apparently stated that all previous instances of Nintendo games being streamed from the event are now considered “unauthorised use”.

When Nintendo launched the Switch 2 earlier this year in June, it also released multiple free game updates for select Switch titles.

One of these updates was for Game Builder Garage – adding visual optimisations, Joy-Con 2 mouse support and more. Now in a follow up update, it’s rolled out Version 1.1.1. This particular update tackles some issues when playing this title on the Switch 2.

A release date is coming “Soon”.

Playtonic Games’ Yooka-Replaylee, a remaster of the 2017 3D collectathon platformer Yooka-Laylee, is “content complete” and a release date announcement is “coming…SoonTM”.

This comes from PM Studios, the physical game publisher who is handling Yooka-Replaylee’s release. The company shared a video on Bluesky giving us a very short explanation on what to expect.

Following the release of the Elves 2 Pro, accessory manufacturer Gulikit is back with the, uh, Elves 2. Yes, this is a cheaper model ($29.99 / £29.99) of the Saturn-inspired wireless pad for the Switch and Switch 2; one that shirks some of the more advanced customisation options of its slightly elder sibling while adding in one rather enticing new feature.

If you happen to own a Switch 2 and are eagerly awaiting a third-party controller that includes wake-up support for Nintendo’s new hardware, the wait is over. The Elves 2 is officially the first to include the feature, and I’m happy to confirm that it works exactly as you’d expect.
