No “download required” banner in sight.

Since the arrival of Game-Key Cards on the Switch 2, there has been ongoing discussion about the future of third-party physical releases. Even during the Switch generation, certain hard copy releases didn’t always live up to expectations, opting to include a download code instead of the actual game.

Fortunately, some companies are still making an effort, and with this in mind, there’s news today that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy is now available as a proper physical release on the original Switch platform after all this time.

Nintendo of America and Interstate Scholastic Esports Alliance (ISEA) have announced a partnership “to make gaming competitions more social, accessible, and rewarding”.

Starting later this year, school-organized tournaments and events for grades 4 through 12 will be able to utilise Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 3, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for competitive play on the Switch and Switch – OLED Model, with the partnership potentially reaching “80,000 elementary, middle, and high school students across 23 states”.

Fans have recently been pondering over a mysterious X/Twitter account that seemingly directly references Super Mario’s upcoming 40th anniversary.

As reported by The Gamer, X account @supermario40th has been causing a bit of a kerfuffle, with some suspecting that it might be legit, thus indicating that Nintendo will indeed celebrate the plumber’s anniversary with a number of key announcements. At the moment, it’s completely blank bar the handle, the ‘aaaaaaaaa’ name, and a single follow for Nintendo’s Japanese account.

Developer Pocketpair is still very much in the midst of a lawsuit from Nintendo over its smash-hit title Palworld, but it may have another issue on its hands.

As covered by The Gamer, a new title by the name of Palland is now available via the Switch eShop, and everything from its basic description to its screenshots indicate that it’s a blatant rip-off of Palworld. Does that also make it a rip-off of Pokémon..? Well, Nintendo would probably say so, yes. We’re not so sure about Pocketpair.

“Get ready for a whole new ball game”.

Last weekend, Nintendo held a special ‘Global Jam’ for the Switch 2 exclusive, Drag x Drive.

This game is described as “the next generation” of 3-on-3 sports, where you use the mouse controls to speed around the court, and flick your wrists to perform tricks and shoot some hoops. To top it off, you can join in on the fun with up to 12 players online.

Treasure Tracker also got a Switch 2 upgrade recently.

Nintendo Music has received its weekly update today and this time it adds the soundtrack from Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

You’ll be able to listen to tracks like the game’s title theme, The King of Pyropuff Peak and much more. All up, this album contains a total of 58 tracks and has a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes.

Faith revived.

I’m really beginning to wonder just how Nightdive Studios manages to fit in so many awesome projects. Last year, we had no less than five major releases from the team, including The Thing: Remastered, DOOM + DOOM II, and Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster, and it’s clearly looking to achieve a similar degree of prolificacy in 2025. So far this year, we’ve had I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, and now – straight out of QuakeCon – Heretic + Hexen.

The latter, published by Bethesda Softworks, is a revamped bundle containing two ‘90s shooters from developer Raven Software (now one of the main studios cranking out Call of Duty titles for Activision). In addition to Heretic and Hexen, you’ve also got both games’ additional content, respectively titled ‘Shadow of the Serpent Riders’ and ‘Deathkings of the Dark Citadel’. Much like its work on DOOM + DOOM II in 2024, Nightdive Studios has also produced two completely new episodes with ‘Heretic: Faith Revived’ and ‘Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur’.
