Gamescom’s Best Nintendo Game Award Scrapped Because Of “Too Few” Games

Nintendo is skipping the event this year.

Who remembered that Gamescom gives out awards? Yep. At the end of every event, the show hands out awards to all eligible games that are present at the Cologne-based expo. One of these categories is the ‘Best Nintendo Game’, which has been around since 2012. However, the award won’t be handed out this year as the organisers have scrapped the award for 2024.

TheGamer, who reported on the story, reached out to Gamescom’s organisers about the decision to scrap the award, and their response revealed that there were “too few submissions” for the category. Here’s the brief statement in full:

Monster-Catching Roguelike ‘Dicefolk’ Rolls Out First DLC Pack On Switch This Fall

Publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment and developer LEAP Studios have today unveiled the first DLC pack for the dice-based monster-catching roguelike Dicefolk, set to roll onto Switch this Fall.

The ‘Will Chimeras Pack’ adds 21 brand new ‘Chimera’ creatures into the game and a bonus ‘Will Talisman’ — a modifier which influences which Chimera you will encounter and recruit throughout a run — to mix up your strategy. There’s also a batch of new enchanted equipment for even more mid-run customisation.

Skies Of Arcadia-Inspired JRPG ‘Sky Oceans’ Bags A Release Date

Launching this October.

PQube & Octeto Studios have revealed the release date for Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire, an intriguing Skies of Arcadia-inspired RPG in which players partake in aerial combat controlled via classic turn-based gameplay.

Launching for the Nintendo Switch on 10th October 2024, there’s a demo available via Steam right now if you want to get a taste of the action ahead of its release. The general gist of the story, however, is that you take control of captain Glenn Windwalker who must recruit and manage a group of rag-tag pirates. You’ll be able to explore various locations on foot, but the real meat of the gameplay takes place in the skies.

Atooi’s Switch Game Hatch Tales Is Finished, But It’s Been Delayed Again

“We know this last minute delay might be frustrating”.

We’ve got some good (and bad) news for anyone who has been waiting for the arrival of Hatch Tales on the Nintendo Switch.

Firstly, Atooi’s Jools Watsham has announced development is finally complete in the latest Kickstarter update. However, there’s been one more “last minute delay”, due to a whirlwind of activity this month. The developer is now “on the cusp” of submitting the game to Nintendo for its “final approval”, so expect another update soon:

We had a doozy of a brawl last week as we looked at The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Four Swords for the GBA. You folks really surprised us with this one, though: we weren’t too keen on the Japanese box art for this, deemed it to be fairly busy in comparison to the others, but your votes are the ones that matter, and so Japan won the day with 47% of the vote. Europe came in second place with 29%, and North America managed 25%.

Fantasian Neo Dimension Rated By The ESRB

Square Enix is publishing this enhanced version.

During Nintendo’s June Direct, Square Enix announced an enhanced version of Mistwalker’s turn-based Apple Arcade RPG Fantasian on multiple platforms including the Switch.

FANTASIAN Neo Dimension (from the creator of the Final Fantasy series Hironobu Sakaguchi) has now been rated by the ESRB, and it’s revealed a little bit more about what to expect from this new enhanced release. The game was also previously locked in for a ‘Holiday 2024‘ launch on the Switch – so it seems it’s still on track for this window.
