Our picks for the best eShop games in July.

Pinch yourselves, it’s August, summer’s end is approaching, and we’re here to talk about video games gone by. Yep, it’s time to look back at last month and talk about July’s eShop Selects.

Nintendo has had another fairly quiet month on the Switch — Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition was the big one, with the likes of Ace Combat 7‘s long-awaited Switch port proving to be a top-tier rerelease. But the eShop has been booming, as per usual. That’s what we focus on for eShop Selects, and as usual, our staff and contributors vote for their top three eShop games from the list of games we’ve reviewed, and we give you the winners (and the best of the rest).

Third time’s a charm.

Welcome back to another edition Box Art Brawl!

Last week’s bout saw us chucking Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for the Nintendo DS into the ring. The designs for this one were pretty similar, all told, but Europe ultimately lost out with its lack of supporting characters and, uh, copious stickers. North America and Japan bagged an impressive 73% of the vote, so well done!

“I can leak stuff too”.

The new Mortal Kombat movie wrapped filming earlier this year and then locked in an October 2025 release date.

Now, in a new update, series co-creator and Mortal Kombat 1 director Ed Boon has shared the very first look at the sequel movie. Boon says he saw an “unfinished cut” and jokes about grabbing the image from the phone of the movie’s producer Todd Garner. Todd even responded to this in an exchange on social media.

The second round of LEGO Animal Crossing sets brings two key locales from your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island to life in Danish brick form. Alongside the Dodo Airlines terminal, K.K. Slider makes his Lego debit in the K.K.’s Concert at the Plaza set.

This is the priciest of the two sets, including three minifigures (including a new version of Isabelle), a facade of the Town Hall including the clock, the noticeboard, and the flagpole, K.K.’s camper van, and a small cafe serving tea and sweetmeats.

Announced by Fireshine Games, the company has partnered up with developer 2D BOY to launch a physical edition of World of Goo 2 on October 29th 2024. Pre-orders are available now at select retailers.
