Right then, it’s the weekend, but before we dive into what we’re playing, let’s take a look at what’s been going on this week.
First up, it was announced that Balatro would be getting its first major update, but keep calm, as it’s not Switch-bound just yet. We caught wind of a rather pointless mod that allows Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to run in 4K (but with terrible performance). And more recently, we were treated to a new trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, showcasing a brand new form for its protagonist.

2024 is turning out to be a pretty good year for Prince of Persia. We got the excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in January, and then rumours of a new game from none other than Dead Cells devs Evil Empire proved to be true when The Rogue Prince of Persia was officially announced. And because of both of these things, it got us reminiscing about other entries in the long-running series.
Jordan Mechner’s 1989 platformer built on the cinematic foundations of Karateka and started a franchise which has seen its share of ups (the Sands of Time reboot, the recent Lost Crown revival) and downs (the Sands of Time film, Prince of Persia 3D), but despite the occasional misfire or workaday entry, the series has endured for almost 35 years

Meet the competitors.
Following the cancellation of Nintendo Live 2024 in Tokyo, the world championships for both Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had to be rescheduled for a later date. Well, that date is now here as the events get underway today (or tomorrow, depending on your time zone).
The championships themselves will be taking place in Japan, though everything will be streamed on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel so nobody has to miss out on any of the action.

Nintendo’s shadow looms.
Discord is reportedly removing servers for the Nintendo Switch emulators Suyu and Sudachi while also completely disabling the accounts for their respective developers.
As covered by The Verge, the developers for the emulators had received communication from Discord about how they were supposedly sharing content that violates intellectual property. In a statement provided to The Verge, Discord said that there was a court ordered injunction for the takedown of such materials, suggesting that the action is directly linked to the previous legal issues surrounding the Switch emulator Yuzu.

Publisher QubicGames has announced that it is launching a 20th Anniversary Switch eShop sale in North America and Europe, slashing the prices of over 100 digital titles. It will be available from 12th April to 1st May 2024.
The paramaters and prices are very much dependent on your region with this one, so let’s take a look at North America first. According to QubicGames, all games included in the sale will be priced at a mere $0.20 each, but in order to qualify, you’ll need to own a digital copy of Coloring Book.
