Publisher The Arcade Crew and developer Joymasher have just launched their latest retro-inspired title Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider, an homage to classic 16-bit action platformers like Shinobi III and Hagane: The Final Conflict. The game is a remarkably authentic retro experience that puts the focus firmly on quick, replayable sessions with hidden items and branching pathways. We were particularly enamoured with the game in our review, awarding it a solid score of 9/10; be sure to check that out if you’re interested in adding Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider to your Switch collection.

Go (away) fish.

I’ll start this with a confusing admission: My favourite thing in the world is a trip to an aquarium. I could spend days gazing through the curved glass of a tank, watching sharks glide past me, pressing my hand against the smooth, white underbelly of a stingray, and taking note of the clownfish darting in and out of the swaying mass of a sea anemone. Aquariums are my happy place. They’re fascinating, beautiful, entrancing, and for a kid who grew up pretty far away from the ocean, basically magic.

So why do I dislike fish Pokémon so much? It’s precisely because they have nothing in common with those actual fish in an aquarium, or in the sea. Let me explain.

With the Christmas chocolates finally dwindling in number, we think it’s fair to say that 2023 is well under way. And as the year kicks off, so too do we see the return of gaming news — nature is healing, people!

This week at Nintendo Life, we have been welcoming in the new year with open arms, looking to the months ahead and talking about some of the upcoming big games. Will focus on his new 3D adventure.

The pink puff Kirby is still kind of celebrating his 30th birthday and to close the celebrations it seems there’ll be a special panel taking place this March at the 2023 Game Developers Conference.

According to the official website, this panel will be a “design session” featuring developers Shinya Kumazaki and Tatsuya Kamiyama. It will focus on Kirby and the Forgotten Land and how it made the leap into the 3D world, along with the new features it adds to the long-running series. This also lines up with the game’s first anniversary.

Welcome to the Velvet Room.

It took a while, but the Persona series has finally made the jump to Switch. After stealing our hearts in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (and a spin-off ‘sequel’ and spin-off remaster found their way onto the console), the main series finally made its way to Nintendo’s hybrid console in late 2022 with Persona 5 Royal.

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are following this up on 19th January 2023, and ahead of their joint release, we wanted to ask the ultimate question — what is Persona? Well, not really, but with lots of names, Goldens, Royals, and FES‘ being thrown around, just what on earth are the differences? What versions can we play on Switch? And, if you’ve only played the spin-offs or Persona 5 Royal, what should you play next?

Can’t keep a good fan down.

It has officially been one year, two months, and nine days (and counting) since Nintendo has made any significant content updates to its second-most successful game in history — Animal Crossing: New Horizons. So, on January 4th, YouTuber NintenTalk released a challenge to their viewers to “Make Animal Crossing: New Horizons fun again” by introducing what they have dubbed #ACNHHardMode.

Surprise! Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood is now open! Technically. Like many other theme parks, the new park is going through a “soft opening”, so it’s not officially open as such; rather, it’s available to members of the public but with the discretion that entry may be limited at any time and guest numbers may be capped.

Members of the Universal park-themed website Inside Universal have managed to get inside the park, which “opened” yesterday ahead of the proper launch on 17th February.

If you’ve ever seen the 1983 version of Scarface starring the excellent Al Pacino, then you’ll know what a mischievous, rambunctious fellow that Tony Montana is. He’s got quite the temper on him, and we reckon a few video game sessions would go a long way to helping him calm down a bit.

It seems that photographer ‘Dwayne Shoots Toys’ agrees and has created a remarkable photo depicting a toy version of Tony Montana playing Duck Hunt on the NES. Check it out:

The D.I.C.E. Awards has revealed the nominations for its 26th annual event – with Nintendo titles being nominated in a number of categories.

PlatinumGames’ title Bayonetta 3 is in the running for ‘action game of the year’. It takes on Grounded, Neon White, Sifu and Vampire Survivors.
