Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2025

Star-Crossed lovers.

As the Switch 2 enters its third month in the wild, the new games are coming in slow but steady. The wealth of Switch 1 games old and new that benefit from the new console’s extra power is helping us pass the time between totally brand new S2 games following launch.

Most players have probably still got their hands full with the excellent Donkey Kong Bananza, but Nintendo has a first-party pair lined up for August: the digital-only Drag x Drive arrives mid-month followed by Star-Crossed World, the Switch 2 upgrade and expansion of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Switch Is Now Within Touching Distance Of The DS’ Lifetime Sales

All that stands between Switch and PS2.

Switch 2 numbers were always going to dominate Nintendo’s latest quarterly financial report, but the Switch 1 is still chugging along, too. In fact, with another quarter under its belt, the OG hybrid is edging ever closer to the DS’ lifetime sales.

At the latest count, the Switch 1 has sold 153.10 million units, putting it within touching distance of the DS’ 154.02 million and the title of the best-selling Nintendo system of all time. It only managed 0.98 million sales in the last quarter (a 53.5% decrease on the same period last year), but there was always going to be a notable slowdown once Switch 2 hit the market.

Review: Time Flies (Switch) – An Indie Oddity That Makes Every Second Count

Lord of the Flies.

As I sat down to write this review, I typed ‘What is the lifespan of a housefly?’ into my search bar. It’s not a question I ever really pondered prior to my playthrough of Time Flies. Somehow, this minimalist indie puzzler got me curious enough to wonder. I can’t say there’s ever been a piece of media that’s ever piqued my general interest in a pest in quite the same way.

That’s because Time Flies’ protagonist is a fly, and they made him cool. That’s not how I thought I’d be anchoring this review, but it’s the truth. Much like how the goose in Untitled Goose Game wins hearts by being a chaotic menace, the fly is an existentialist rebel worthy of an Albert Camus novella about, say, the absurd search for meaning in a life measured in seconds.

And it’s got a release date.

If you’re a survival horror fan, you’ve probably been keeping an eye on Cronos: The New Dawn, a brand new sci-fi third-person shooter where you jump between 1980’s Poland and a dystopian future. Previews for the game dropped earlier this week for other platforms, and they seem solid across the board.

Luckily, Switch 2 owners don’t need to miss out on the scares, as the game was confirmed to be coming to the new Nintendo console on the same day as other platforms; 5th September 2025.

Apex Legends Gets A Switch 2 Upgrade & Release Next Week

Squad up, Switch 2 style!

EA has just announced that Apex Legends will be receiving a Switch 2 upgrade next month, or rather next week, as it drops on August 5th. Hooray!

Yep, as part of today’s very good/middling/awful (delete as appropriate) Partner Direct, we learned that the online squad-based shooter, which first launched all the way back in 2019 — when it singlehandedly invented pinging stuff for your mates in-game (maybe) — will hit Switch 2 next Tuesday.
