During this week’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, Square Enix announced it would be bringing Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined to the Switch and Switch 2 in early 2026.
Since then, an FAQ page for this title has gone live on the official Dragon Quest website in Japan, and it’s confirmed there is no upgrade path currently available or planned for the Switch version. Here it is in full:

A new paid DLC update is now available.
Nintendo’s latest Direct broadcast was filled with all sorts of surprises, but one thing you might not have expected was DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza.
Yes, just months after the initial release on the Switch 2, DK’s latest outing has now been bolstered with some smashing new content, and it’s available right now. As part of the release of DK Island & Emerald Rush, Nintendo has also bumped the base game up to Version 2.0.0.

It’s been a busy day thanks to Nintendo’s huge hour-long Direct, but the Japanese broadcast still managed to have a surprise in store for us — Mega Man Star Force: Legacy Collection.
Coming to Switch in 2026, Capcom announced the collection via the Japanese showcase, but also dropped an English trailer, confirming we’d be seeing the remastered set in the West in 2026. The game will also be at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
