The best is yet to come.

2nd April 2025 will go down as a big day in Nintendo history for a lot of reasons. For one, it was when Nintendo finally lifted the lid on Switch 2, showcasing the console, its games and the all-important price and release date. It was also when, for some of us, our Switch 1 playtime tanked.

The new console may have ignited a renewed passion for all things Nintendo, but with a shinier, newer Switch right around the corner, the idea of going back to the machine that has kept us going for the last eight years didn’t seem quite so attractive to some. And so, just like Andy abandoning Woody for Buzz in Toy Story, anecdotally, we’ve heard of Switch 1 units spending the last few weeks gathering dust for one reason or another.

Earlier than expected on Switch.

If you were a fan of Hello Kitty Island Adventure and all its New Horizons-inspired cosiness when it arrived on Switch earlier this year, then boy, do we have a surprise for you. The life-sim’s first major content update has sidestepped its planned release date and landed on the Nintendo hybrid a week early — what a treat.

The ‘Friends, Furniture, and Frozen Peaks’ update arrived on Steam last month, with dev Sunblink adding a 22nd May release date for the Switch version. It seemed to be full steam ahead on the later launch until yesterday evening, when the studio appeared on Twitter to make the surprise announcement that the update is, in fact, available right now. What’s more, it’s free!

Following a similar decision with Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

It’s been some time since Ubisoft provided an update about the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ‘Remake’ project, but we’ve officially got one in the company’s latest earnings call.

Although the plan is to now provide unannounced major IPs additional development time to improve the overall quality of each experience after a similar delay helped Assassin’s Creed Shadows – it seems the long-awaited Sands of Time remake could be on the horizon.

That’s a wrap.

Following rumours late last year Mortal Kombat 1 could be winding down its support sooner rather than later, NetherRealm and WB Games have this week announced the arrival of the Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition.

This version of the game, which is available for $59.99 USD (or your regional equivalent), is said to offer the “most extensive Mortal Kombat 1 experience” including not only the base game and more recent Khaos Reigns story expansion but also both Kombat Packs (including all of the DLC fighters so far).

The Pokémon Company has revealed that the Pokémon Fossil Museum, a travelling exhibit of Pokémon skeletons and fossils for pudding paleontologists, will be leaving Japan for the first time in 2026.

The first exhibit to debut outside of Japan will be at Chicago’s Field Museum in Illinois, and is due to open on 22nd May 2026. That gives you a full year to start saving up to visit.

The Nintendo Today! app has continued its never-ending stream of Switch 2 information drops with a closer look at the new Pro Controller’s fresh rear buttons, specifically, how easy it is to set them up.

In a new app segment titled ‘How to Use the GL and GR Buttons’, Nintendo explains that mapping an input to one of these bonus buttons all comes down to a simple press of the HOME Button. Just like on Switch 1, holding the HOME Button will open the Quick Settings on Switch 2, where you will be able to assign commands for GL and GR.

We all know the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be significantly more powerful than its predecessor, but just what kind of internals is the new console boasting? Well, thanks to a new breakdown by Digital Foundry, we can now finally dive into the specifics.

First, let’s take a look at the custom Nvidia SoC (system on a chip). When compared to the equivalent for the original Switch – which was effectively a vanilla Tegra X1 – the new Nvidia T239 for the Switch 2 is absolutely custom build specifically for Nintendo.

With a focus on quality over quantity.

Square Enix has released its financial results for FY2025, detailing a rather middling performance for the company with a distinct lack of major releases.

The good news is that its HD Digital Entertainment sub-segment (i.e. the big games we’re all interested in) turned a profit, but only because a combination of lower development and marketing costs mixed with higher-than-expected sales of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake effectively outweighed the higher net sales from the previous year. So, in short, Dragon Quest saved the day.
