We’re another week closer to the Switch 2, folks! We can’t almost taste the new cartridges… (bleugh!)
Anyway, let’s see what’s been going on this week. First up, we had the big 20.0.0 update on Switch, which added both Virtual Game Cards and GameShare, along with a few other minor bits and bobs. On a similar topic, it seems more and more publishers are embracing Game-Key Cards for Switch 2, and Nightdive’s own CEO reckons that this is “disheartening”.

Relive another JRPG adventure.
If you’ve been holding out for a physical Switch copy of SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered, which was released on the eShop in March, you’ll be pleased to hear it’s on the way.
Playasia has issued a reminder on social media about its physical copy with “multi-language” support (including English on the cartridge) and an English cover. It will set you back $36.99 USD or your regional equivalent and it’s expected to ship on 5th June 2025. It seems VGP will also be offering the “multi-language” release.

A remake of a beloved RPG, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is on the way — at least according to Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii.
Yep, the dream remake might be coming — Chrono Trigger is apparently being remade, and Horii-san (who supervised on the 1995 classic) may have accidentally let it slip during a panel at Napoli Comicon. Multiple fans who attended Horii’s panel have attested that the legendary game creator has apparently confirmed the remake’s existence (via Insider Gaming).

What series would you like to see next-gen?
Ubisoft recently confirmed it would be supporting the Switch 2 with Star Wars Outlaws, and this was followed by a rating for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Now, the third-party publisher looks like it could be teasing a few other games on its social media pages. Ubisoft Brazil recently shared a post asking its followers what Ubisoft titles they would like to play on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The Louvre Museum in Paris, France is retiring the Nintendo 3DS audio guides for the museum later this year.
Spotted by Nintendo Everything, the official website for the world-famous museum confirms that the 3DS console audio guides are going “out of operation” sometime in September this year in place of a new system which hasn’t been confirmed. A Nintendo Switch 2 app, perhaps…? Oh, come on, you thought it too.

Well, we’ve come to the end of a week that’s seen the end of two gaming institutions as we’ve known them for many years.
The departure of Dan Ryckert and Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb on Thursday was swiftly followed by news of layoffs at Polygon following the site’s sale to Valnet (owner of Screen Rant). Seeing these top-tier creators and games journalists unceremoniously cast aside has been a shock for anybody who’s followed and enjoyed their work over the years.

Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on 26th May, 2026.
That’s right, it’s no longer scheduled for this year. Not entirely surprising, to be honest, but at least we have a date now. Obviously, what’s not yet clear at this stage is whether the game is heading for the Nintendo Switch 2. Hopefully we’ll get full confirmation of this pretty soon, though.

The Shire comes to Switch this July.
In case you somehow missed it, we’re getting another Lord of the Rings game, but this one is probably like no other entry you’ve seen in the series before. This new title, known as Tales of the Shire, has been described as a “cosy” Tolkien-inspired lifestyle-like game and it’s arriving on the Switch this July.
In the lead up to the big release, the New Zealand team Wētā Workshop is now showcasing various aspects of the title with special “inside look” videos. The latest one covers the Fellowship behind this new game – with various shorts directly from the team, including how certain aspects of the game have been crafted.
