Following three updates in June, Mario Kart World‘s first (and probably last) update for July 2025 is now live.
This might just be the biggest one yet, as it includes a whole bunch of general updates as well as multiple bug fixes. One, in particular, mentions how the frequency of “lap-type courses” has been increased, and much more has also been updated.

Well, well, well.
2024’s hit puzzle platformer Animal Well is getting a second physical edition, this time from Lost In Cult, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
After announcing an artbook earlier this year, Lost In Cult has lifted the lid on two lovely little physicals on social media — one standard edition, and one exclusive edition designed by UFO 50 and Spelunky creator Derek Yu. Both versions cost £29.99 and will be shipping in Q4 2025.

With mouse controls and 120fps, too!
Japanese developer ITL is returning to one of its DSiWare titles, Handy Hockey, and bringing it to the Switch 2 in just two days — on 31st July 2025 — for the bargain price of £5.00 / $7.00.
The original game launched as a DSiWare title back in 2010 and is a simple, neon-coloured air hockey game. However, it was exclusive to Japan. This version looks to be a polished-up version of the original, making it the first time it’s available in the West.

We’re two days away from the release of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, Dotemu and The Game Kitchen’s gorgeous pixel art spin-off from the Ninja Gaiden series (which is experiencing something of a comeback lately). And ahead of the game’s launch, publisher Dotemu has some potentially disappointing news for Switch owners.
The Switch 1 version “will average a 30 FPS experience at launch”, the publisher announced, while other platforms will hit a solid 60fps. Not the best news, but it’s par-the-course for many games on the older hybrid.

Yes, Nintendo’s Switch Online-focused battle-royale Tetris game will be hosting a special event between 1st – 4th August, 2025. In this limited-time Maximus Cup, you’ll be able to unlock a theme including special art, music and Tetrimino designs once you’ve accumulated 100 event points.

Nintendo has been rolling out regular firmware updates since the Switch 2 launched in June, and now before the end July, it’s released another one.

A Lord of the Rings cosy game? Made by Weta Workshop, who made the sets, costumes, and props for the beloved Peter Jackson movie trilogy? Say no more, right?
Unfortunately, Tales of the Shire is not the perfect mashup of hobbits and hygge we’ve all been waiting for, but is instead emblematic of the kind of game development that has failed both its employees and its players. Those employees deserve to have their work appraised for the things they did right despite everything, though — so I’ll at least start with that.

Well look who finally showed up! Microsoft has today announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong (yes, the Hollow Knight: Silksong) will be making an appearance at Gamescom 2025 in a new playable demo.
In a new Xbox Wire blog post, the company confirmed that Silksong will be one of the titles coming to the Xbox booth for the duration of the event (20th-24th August). This will be playable both on PC and on the ROG Xbox Ally X — the company’s upcoming entry to the wonderful world of handheld gaming.
