Some Fans Are Drawing Unfavourable Comparisons Between Switch 2 And Xbox One

Don Mattrick’s infamous quote resurfaces.

The Nintendo Switch 2 pricing reveal hasn’t exactly gone down well, and with the economic instability at the moment, many consumers are frustrated at the price and lack of communication. But as interviews with Nintendo of America reps were published yesterday, one of Doug Bowser’s comments in particular has stuck — and not in a good way.

The president of Nintendo of America spoke to CBC about the negative reaction to the price of the console. As Bowser has done in multiple interviews, he’s justified the price by listing off the new features available, here stating “the pricing is appropriate for the value of the machine and the gameplay experience overall,.”

Community: What Questions About Switch 2 Do You Still Have For Nintendo?

What a difference a Direct makes.

It’s been a busy week for Nintendo and its fans, that’s for sure. With Switch 1 in a definite ‘wind-down’ mode over the past few months — though still delivering goods like Xenoblade Chronicles X, to be fair! — last week’s Switch 2 Direct brought new goods, new faces, but also new questions.

In fact, it’s the lack of clarity around some aspects which has left us feeling a tad more confused than we should about things like game-key cards and NS2 Edition upgrades. There’s contradictory information flying around from customer service agents and official Nintendo Store reps who have presumably been briefed and have an official Q&A doc to hand – but somehow they don’t seem to be on the same page.

UK Switch 2 Fans, Don’t Bother Going To GAME Stores For Your Pre-Order

You won’t get one.

A new report from Eurogamer indicates that Switch 2 pre-orders at GAME retail stores in the UK simply won’t be a thing, with the firm instead possessing a “small allocation” of consoles available via its official website.

It’s yet another indication of how GAME is downsizing its operations after numerous controversial decisions over the last year or two. Most GAME stores have now been moved to concession locations within Sports Direct, another brand firmly in the grip of the wider Frasers Group retail conglomerate.

New Hollow Knight: Silksong Screenshots Sneak Onto Japanese Nintendo Website

Dashing.

It’s all kicking off in the world of Hollow Knight: Silksong, isn’t it? After scoring a 2025 release window in last week’s Direct and the clarification that it’ll launch on Switch alongside Switch 2, you’d think we’ve heard enough official news from Team Cherry, but no! There’s a fresh batch of screenshots out there.

As noted on Twitter by Hollow Knight YouTuber and game dev @mossbag69, the Japanese Nintendo website has been treated to a handful of new screenshots, showing Hornet in action. Admittedly, the snaps themselves don’t reveal much that we haven’t seen before (the locales all appeared in the game’s 2019 reveal trailer), but they are a nice indication of how the game has progressed in the years since.

Nintendo Understands Switch Owners May Not Be “Ready To Jump To Switch 2”

And it wants to keep those players “engaged”.

Nintendo’s future is very much focused on the launch of the Switch 2, but as we already know it will also be continuing to support the original system (at least until 2026).

The company has already locked in some new Switch titles for next year and during a chat with The Washington Post, Nintendo of America’s president Doug Bowser acknowledged how not everyone is necessarily ready to make the jump to Switch 2.

Review: Rift Of The NecroDancer (Switch) – Imagine If Guitar Hero & Ikaruga Made A Baby

Slimes to the left of me, zombies to the right.

Canadian developer Brace Yourself Games first hit the spotlight with Crypt of the NecroDancer, a rhythm-based roguelike, all the way back in 2015. Dungeon crawling to a relentless beat became the new dance craze sweeping the nation, and it was warmly welcomed into the Switch indie canon with the 2019 Zelda tie-in Cadence of Hyrule.

This time, Brace Yourself has teamed up with Tic Toc Games for a fun spin-off that trades dungeon crawling for guitar shredding. It’s still rhythm-based and still builds to mind-bending, chaotic action, but it’s also still surprisingly puzzley, like Guitar Hero had a baby with Ikaruga. And there’s zombies. It’s not often that a game makes you feel like you’re solving a puzzle, dodging traffic, and playing a gig all at once, but Rift of the NecroDancer likes to keep you busy.

Switch 2 Devs May Assign Specific Inputs To Pro Controller’s Back Buttons

Is it worth the hassle, though?

One of the biggest surprises from the recent Switch 2 Direct is that the accompanying Pro Controller will actually come with two new back buttons labelled ‘GL’ and ‘GR’.

In addition to a slightly revamped design in which Nintendo took inspiration from the GameCube controller, the new Pro Controller is also seemingly taking a few cues from the likes of the Xbox Elite Controller and PlayStation Dualsense Edge, both of which sport their own customisable back ‘paddles’.
