Grab Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 for 33% Off During Black Friday

Black Friday is officially here, meaning plenty of deals have begun. One of these deals is for the recently released Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which is now available for only $39.99 at Amazon and Best Buy. This is a $20 discount for a collection of some of the most iconic stealth-action titles ever. If you’re a fan of stealth games, this is a deal you shouldn’t pass on.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Only $39.99

The Master Collection was announced as a part of Metal Gear’s 35th anniversary. The compilation includes the iconic first three Metal Gear Solid titles and the original MSX titles Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Loads of bonus content is bundled in with the Master Collection, including a Master Book and Screenplay Book for each title, Metal Gear graphic novels, and an in-game digital soundtrack. Additionally, Snake’s Revenge, the NES sequel to Metal Gear, is a part of this collection.

All versions of the game are on sale for Black Friday. This includes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. This is the first time that the Metal Gear Solid titles are available on modern platforms. Previously, only the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was playable on Xbox through backward compatibility. Plenty of fans are expecting Konami to release Vol. 2 of the Master Collection down the line, which would include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots alongside other titles.

Dozens of other games have received steep discounts in addition to the Master Collection. This includes Final Fantasy XVI, which is one of the biggest RPGs of 2023. Additionally, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is 20% off right now.

There’s Still Time to Sign Up for the Best Audible Deal of Black Friday

The Amazon Black Friday Sale is coming to an end, but fortunately this Audible deal ends a bit longer than that. First time Audible subscribers can get 4 months of Audible Premium Plus membership for only $5.95 per month. That adds up to $23.80. You also get a free $20 credit that’s good for any audiobook at Audible, which means you actually only end up paying about $4 for your entire 4 month subscription. If you’re not sure whether or not you’re eligible, simply click on the link; if you see the promo then you’re eligible and if you don’t then you’re not. This deal ends on Cyber Monday, November 27, so although you don’t have all the time in the world, you do have more than a few hours!

Black Friday Deal: Audible Premium Plus for $5.95/mo + $20 Audible Credit

Audible is a subscription service that gives you access to hundreds of thousands of the best audiobooks without ever having to purchase them. There are two paid membership plans: the lower tier Audible Plus ($7.95/mo) and the higher tier Audible Premium Plus ($14.95/mo). The biggest difference between the two is the size of the audiobook library. Whereas Audible Plus only lets you listen to a selection of about 10,000 audiobooks, the Audible Premium Plus plan gives you access to a whopping 500,000 audiobooks. These include all-time classics like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire), Witcher, The Sandman Series, The Lord of the Rings, Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archives, Mistborn, and much more.

Although the seriously expanded library is the main draw of the Audible Premium Plus membership, there are some other nice perks as well. Every month Premium Plus members get to pick one audiobook to keep in their library indefinitely, even after the membership expires. Also, Premium Plus members can get 30% off any additional audiobooks they wish to purchase, in addition to exclusive limited-time discounts.

On a regular day, new subscribers are eligible for a 30-day free trial of either Audible membership. But why settle for one month when you can get four months? Likewise, if you were planning to purchase a couple of audiobooks anyway, then it makes more sense to jump on this deal, get the $20 Audible credit, and enjoy the subscription at least for a little while.

Xbox Controllers Get a Massive Discount in the Black Friday Sales

Xbox’s Black Friday deals are finally here as the holiday has arrived. While we originally thought Xbox controllers would only be getting a small $10 discount at most retailers, the deal is actually a lot better than that and well worth considering if you’ve been after an additional gamepad. The cheapest controller you can get right now is for $39.99 at Best Buy (see here), and its the Stellar Shift Special Edition with an MSRP of $69.99. This deal is also live for Black Friday sales in the UK, with Xbox Controllers down to £38.99.

This will likely sell out as its such a good deal, so let’s get into what else is available in the deal as well. By the looks of things, most other controllers have dropped to at least $44.99, which is a decent $20 off the standard Xbox controller and a reasonable deal for Black Friday. Plus, this includes some of the newer color variations as well like the Astral Purple design. We’ll leave all the links you need just below.

There are plenty of other fantastic Xbox deals live as well. The best deal we’ve seen so far is the Xbox Series X Diablo 4 Bundle from Walmart, which includes Diablo 4 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for $489, or $439 without CoD.

If you’re a Best Buy Plus/ Tech Total member you can also get a Series X for $399 + a Best Buy $50 Gift Card, and for everyone else its $449, but that is still a great deal. Microsoft is currently hosting its own Black Friday sale, and you can currently get an Xbox Series S + 3-months Xbox Game Pass for $249.

Dell also has a variety of deals now available across PCs, laptops, consoles, accessories, and more. In addition, Dell has several monitors available for a discounted rate for Black Friday. Be sure to check out our Dell Black Friday 2023 roundup for all the ongoing deals.

New Amazon Black Friday Deal: Save $50 Off the Xbox Series X and Get $50 in Amazon Credit

Better late than never. For Amazon Black Friday, you can save $50 off a brand new Xbox Series X 1TB gaming console and get a bonus $50 Amazon credit when you apply promo code “XBOX50” during checkout. That’s essentially $100 off the console and matches the best Black Friday deals we’ve seen from other vendors. If you shop at Amazon, then you’ll know that Amazon credit is as good as cash, because you can use it on practically anything on Amazon.com.

If you’re looking for Xbox games or accessories, check out the best Xbox Black Friday deals.

$50 Off Xbox Series X and Get $50 Amazon Credit

The Xbox Series X is a current generation system able to drive 4K games at up to a glorious 120fps. It is technically a more powerful system than the PS5 and games that are compatible with both consoles usually perform better on the Xbox console. Compared to the $300 Xbox Series S, the X features more powerful hardware to enable it to run games in 4K (the Xbox Series S runs games at 1440p). The Xbox Series X also has a disc drive that can play 4K Blu-ray movies and physical game media. It is also equipped with a 1TB SSD. The capacity can be increased with either the Seagate or WD expansion cards.

$50 Off Xbox Series X and Get a Bonus $75 Dell Gift Card

As part of the Dell Black Friday Sale, Dell has the Xbox Series X gaming console for only $449.99 with a bonus $75 Dell eGift Card. Technically that’s more than the $50 Amazon credit, but since this is a Dell gift card, you will have to spend it at Dell. If you regularly shop at Dell, then you should definitely go with this deal. If not, the Amazon deal is better. You will receive the gift card via email within 20 days after the Xbox ships and it will expire 90 days thereafter. Use the gift card to buy almost anything at Dell including gaming PCs, gaming monitors, gaming consoles, and even Xbox games and accessories.

Xbox Series X Diablo 4 Bundle for $439

If you don’t mind getting a bundle, than this Walmart Black Friday deal is a better offer. You’re getting an Xbox Series X console for $439, which is $10 cheaper than the other two deals above. Instead of getting a gift card, you get the excellent Diablo 4 game. If this game seems like something you’d be interested in playing, then brab this deal. Diablo 4 normally retails for $70 and even during Black Friday it still costs $50.

Amazon Finally Has the Black Friday Super Smash Bros. OLED Bundle

The Super Smash Bros. OLED Nintendo Switch bundle has been available at retailers since Sunday November 19, but Black Friday at Amazon hasn’t seen it until now. This is also one of the best Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals around.

Best Nintendo Switch Deal: Super Smash Bros. OLED Bundle

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is, of course, one of the best games ever created. Even if you don’t like its fighting style, you have to respect the sheer volume of content in Smash Ultimate. It doesn’t even seem possible, but there are 89 fighters in all. That, alone, is a pretty astonishing feat and an incredible homage to gaming as a whole, but then you have the stages, the spirits, the music. It’s incredible.

The best Nintendo Switch bundle deal of Black Friday is also the best Nintendo Switch gift for Christmas, because it’s the OLED edition with the bigger and better screen, a digital code for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a 3 month membership to Nintendo Switch Online, and you get the special-edition Super Smash Bros. Joy-con controllers, all for $349.99.

That’s the price of a regular Nintendo Switch OLED model without the special controllers or the other extras. All told you’re saving about $65 buying this bundle. The best part is if you’re giving the Smash OLED bundle as a gift to someone this Christmas season, they can start playing right away. Obviously, yeah, Super Smash Bros. comes with it, but the 3-months Nintendo Switch Online membership gets you (or whoever you give this to as a gift) access to classic Super NES and NES games while the subscription is active.

Nintendo Switch Online Black Friday Deals

There are also deals on NSO membership, if you’re looking to save money. Which seems obvious now that I’m typing it out, because you’re reading an article about a Black Friday Nintendo Switch deal.

Do You Need a Membership to Nintendo Switch Online?

No, there’s no requirement to have an NSO membership. However if you want to play certain online games, you need a membership, and the classic games are locked out for non-members. The Nintendo Switch Online family membership is good for up to eight different people, so if you have a close friend group, you can split the cost. But again: not required!

Get ViewSonic’s 180hz Omni gaming monitors for less this Black Friday

Here’s an unusual proposition this Black Friday, we’ve got two gaming monitors on offer for you to choose from. Ok, it’s not that unusual. In fact, it’s pretty standard for an event all about buying cheap kit. But they are very similar monitors, which makes deciding between them more interesting. I’m referring to the ViewSonic Omni VX2428J and VX2728J.

The Best Black Friday Board Game Deals on Amazon: Pandemic Legacy, Wingspan, Spirit Island

Amazon Black Friday has started in earnest. Most of the deals aren’t available yet (more will be released each day), but the one exception is the board games category. Amazon has dropped the price on dozens of popular board games and board game expansions. These include favorites like Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, Catan, Carcassonne, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Azul, Wingspan and more. However, there are also several more niche games that we’ve rarely seen discounted, like Everdell, Agricola, Pandemic Legacy, Paleo, and more. So if your board game collection could use some freshening up, then peruse the list right here. We’ll add more deals as we see them go live.

Wingspan Board Game for $35.33

Wingspan from Stonemeier Games is an incredibly good board game. So good in fact that we deemed it the best board game of 2019. Wingspan looks like a deceptively simple game; the endgame goal is to attract as many birds as you can to your wildlife preserve and help them proliferate. There are only four actions you can perform: draw a bird card, play a bird card, get food, and lay eggs. Sounds simple enough, right? Well let’s just say these four actions mask an incredibly complex engine-building game with which you will have to juggle between bringing new birds into the fold and keeping your existing birds well stocked and in a breeding frenzy. Wingspan is infinitely replayable, and you’ll find yourself developing and honing new strategies with every subsequent playthough.

Pandemic Legacy Board Game for $40.73

If combat-based narrative campaigns aren’t your thing, how about working together to purge the world of infectious diseases? Building on the success of the original Pandemic, the Pandemic Legacy series introduces “legacy” concepts to the game, in which components are added or removed as you progress through the game, based on your decisions, successes and failures. After a few plays, your copy will be a unique record of your group’s play. So in addition to offering a very personal tale to engage you, Pandemic: Legacy also individualizes your strategic experience.

Spirit Island Board Game for $43.99

A lot of cooperative board games are very family-friendly, but Spirit Island is different. It’s deep and demanding, for one thing, with a commensurate sense of strategic satisfaction when your group pulls off a victory. For another, it boasts a thought-provoking theme of anti-colonialism, with players taking the roles of elemental gods working together to repel a colonizing invader. Winning means using a combination of your native worshippers and your special elemental powers to plan a way of predicting the path of invasion and throwing them back into the sea.

Azul Board Board Game for $20

Azul is an unusual board game in that it doesn’t involve war or intrigue or anything high-stakes like that. Instead, players in Azul compete to design the most beautiful tiled mosaics they can. You and your opponents claim tiles from a central market and place them on your board. Play wisely, and you’ll hamper your opponent while creating intricate patterns for extra points yourself.

Ticket to Ride Board Game for $27.47

One of the few hobby board games to cross over into full mainstream sales, Ticket to Ride is a steaming success story. It’s a combination of familiar concepts with players collecting cards, like a Rummy game, in order to try and claim matching routes on a map of the US. But beware: it’s a tight board with relatively few potential connections between the cities that you’ll need in order to complete your allotted routes. And if another player gets there first, you’ll lose potential points instead of gaining them. Easy to learn and exciting to play and with a wide variety of versions and expansion maps, Ticket to Ride is great fun for all ages. It also works well as a two-player board game, or with a group.

Marvel Champions The Card Game for $33.49

Marvel Champions is a cooperative living card game for one to four players that features some of the most beloved superheroes of all time. While it’s a relatively new card game, its popularity has risen quite quickly and has brought in many new players with its support and collection of superheroes and villains. If you are new to Marvel Champions, look no further than this box set. It includes everything you need to jump into this card game world featuring your favorite Marvel superheroes.

Splendor for $20

Economic engine games, where you build an increasingly powerful economy to buy stuff to build it even more, are a popular gaming sub-genre. They don’t come much simpler than this gem about… gem dealing. On your turn you take tokens to pay for gems, and each gem gives you a permanent boost to your token bank. It’s a race to engineer the most efficient economy and grab the best gems. The trouble is, everyone wants the best gems too. So every turn you pump your engine, you risk losing prime resources to other players. Throw in a variety of finicky patrons to please for bonus points and you’ve got an engine that generates as much tension as it does tactics.

Arkham Horror: The Card Game (Revised Edition) for $37.49

If you’re looking a good horror board game, Arkham Horror: The Card Game is a no-brainer. The base game comes with a small handful of scenarios that sends you directly into the jaws of cosmic mystery. You can use the suggested starter decks, or build a custom one centered around your chosen investigator’s special abilities. Gameplay sees you hopping from location to location to search for clues in order to advance the story while attempting to impede the deadly Mythos deck. Your investigator will inevitably take damage and acquire weaknesses over time that can affect future games in the campaign, making Arkham Horror: The Card Game one of the most thematic games on this list.

Amazon Black Friday Board Game Expansion Deals

These expansion packs are not standalone, meaning you will need to purchase the base game. These packs are meant to add even more content to the core game by adding more maps, units, cards, or gameplay mechanisms. If you absolutely love a specific board game, it often makes more sense to get an expansion pack to increase its replay value than buying an entirely new game, especially since it usually costs less.

What to Consider When Shopping for the Best Board Games

There’s so much choice in modern board gaming that picking a game can be overwhelming, not to mention expensive! So to help winnow down the selection, here are a few things to look out for when making your picks.

Perhaps the most important one is whether it’s likely to see much play. Aspects of this are fairly obvious: whether it appeals to your friends, what’s the target age, if it’s a long game, will you have time for it, and so on. But there’s still more to these facets than may be immediately apparent. You may feel comfortable learning a very complex game, for example, but will your fellow players, and will you be able to teach it? Do you want a game to play with your partner, or your wider family, or does it need to be flexible enough to cater for both crowds?

Even then, these are often vexed questions. The play times listed on box sides are often hopelessly optimistic. Similarly, a game’s advertised player count can be very different from the ideal. A good tool to clear this up is the game information database boardgamegeek.com. If you search on a game there then, at the top of the page you’ll find, beneath the player count, a “best” suggestion for the optimal player count according to the site’s users.

There are other many other considerations. Some games take up a lot of table space, for example, which is no good if you play on a coffee or smaller board game table. Others can take a long time to set up and put away. These issues are often mentioned in a review if they’re problematic. And they can stack: you may be able to play a much longer game, for example, if you have space to pause and leave it out on the table to resume later.

Some genres of game require greater research than others. Increasingly, games are being released as lifestyle choices with a steady stream of expansions and new content. Which is great if it appeals to you, but you need to know what you’re getting into. Other games merge into miniature modelling which is a whole other hobby in it’s own right. Editions and versions are another thing worth checking out as many modern games come in standard and deluxe editions or may, in fact, be reprints of older titles.

You also need to think about how a game might fit in with your existing collection, both aesthetically and physically. For the former, consider what makes it different enough, mechanically or thematically, from games you already own to make it worthwhile. For the latter, remember that board games are big, and you’ll need to find space to store it!
