Prison Architect 2 Spotted Online

It looks like Prison Architect 2 will soon be revealed after a listing for the game popped up online.

X/Twitter user @Kurakasis flagged that Prison Architect 2 has been rated by Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee.

Publisher Paradox (of Crusader Kings and Stellaris) has yet to announce Prison Architect 2, but it was teased in May alongside the original game’s Sunset Update. A trailer, below, thanking fans for supporting the game also teased a 3D sequel. In the trailer’s final scene, a 2D inmate pops into 3D, much to the shock of everyone around him.

Prison Architect is the hugely successful builder simulation game from indie developer Introversion. IGN’s Prison Architect review returned an 8/10. We said: “Prison Architect is one of the most in-depth, satisfying builder games in ages, if you can get past the initiation.”

Introversion sold the Prison Architect intellectual property to Paradox in 2019, with Double Eleven taking over development duties. Introversion went on to release the well-received spaceship construction game, The Last Starship, which is currently in Early Access on Steam.

It will be interesting to see how Prison Architect manages the transition from 2D to 3D, given its 2D art style was a key part of the original game’s appeal. IGN has asked Paradox for comment.

PS5 Black Friday Shopping Tips

Many of these tips are applicable no matter what you’re shopping for on Black Friday.

  • Plan Your Spending – It’s important to acknowledge that many of us have substantial video game backlogs. Just because you spot a game you desire on sale, doesn’t mean you should rush to buy it. Set a budget and stick to it. Only invest in games you genuinely intend to play in the near future.
  • Create a Wishlist – A practical approach to keep your Black Friday spending in check is by crafting a wishlist of games or items you’re interested in purchasing, and then adhere to it. Resist the temptation of deals that don’t align with the items you would have bought otherwise.
  • Compare Prices – It’s not uncommon to be enticed by what seems like an excellent Black Friday deal (for instance, The Last of Us Part 1 for $39.99). However, it’s wise to double-check by looking at other popular retailers to see if they offer a matching or even better sale price before hitting the buy button.
  • Act Swiftly on Exceptional Deals – When you stumble upon a truly remarkable deal on a PlayStation game or accessory, don’t hesitate. Retailers have limited stock, and the best deals are likely to sell out before Black Friday concludes. Seize the fantastic deals promptly.
  • But, Don’t Worry if You Miss Out – If you attempt to purchase an outstanding deal and discover that it’s sold out, don’t be disheartened. Often, the very same Black Friday deal may resurface on Cyber Monday. And even if it doesn’t, the next Prime Day will arrive sooner than you think.

The original PS5 console is in no way outdated; it has the same internal specifications as the PS5 Slim. In fact, footprint-wise, it’s not even that much bigger. Also the original console has plenty of 3rd party accessories (and 1st party ones like the skins) that won’t work for the PS5 Slim model.

The Best Amazon Black Friday Deal Is This Audible Premium Plus Offer

First time Audible subscribers can get 4 months of Audible Premium Plus membership for only $5.95 per month. That adds up to $23.80. You also get a free $20 credit that’s good for any audiobook at Audible, which means you actually only end up paying about $4 for your entire 4 month subscription. This deal ends on Cyber Monday, November 27, so you better hurry!

Black Friday Deal: Audible Premium Plus for $5.95/mo + $20 Audible Credit

Audible is a subscription service that gives you access to hundreds of thousands of the best audiobooks without ever having to purchase them. There are two paid membership plans: the lower tier Audible Plus ($7.95/mo) and the higher tier Audible Premium Plus ($14.95/mo). The biggest difference between the two is the size of the audiobook library. Whereas Audible Plus only lets you listen to a selection of about 10,000 audiobooks, the Audible Premium Plus plan gives you access to a whopping 500,000 audiobooks. These include all-time classics like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire), Witcher, The Sandman Series, The Lord of the Rings, Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archives, Mistborn, and much more.

Although the seriously expanded library is the main draw of the Audible Premium Plus membership, there are some other nice perks as well. Every month Premium Plus members get to pick one audiobook to keep in their library indefinitely, even after the membership expires. Also, Premium Plus members can get 30% off any additional audiobooks they wish to purchase, in addition to exclusive limited-time discounts.

On a regular day, new subscribers are eligible for a 30-day free trial of either Audible membership. But why settle for one month when you can get four months? Likewise, if you were planning to purchase a couple of audiobooks anyway, then it makes more sense to jump on this deal, get the $20 Audible credit, and enjoy the subscription at least for a little while.

Nintendo Switch Black Friday Deals: Games, Consoles, and Switch Accessories Now on Sale

Here’s good news for Nintendo Switch owners (and prospective owners): Black Friday 2023 is here. And tons of Nintendo Switch games, accessories, and console bundles are on sale, many for all-time low prices. Major game series like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Kirby have already seen price drops of $30 or more — and more discounts are coming online all the time. Also, one of the Nintendo Switch Black Friday console bundles is already available to purchase. Let’s take a look at the deals.

Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros. OLED Black Friday Bundle

The new Black Friday Switch OLED bundle features a digital download of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and a three-month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. Priced at $349.99 MSRP, it offers approximately $67.98 in savings. We’re predicting this new bundle to be extremely popular, and will likely sell out by Cyber Monday on November 27 — so make your purchase ASAP to avoid disappointment. .

Standard Black Friday Nintendo Switch Console Bundle (Best Deal)

Black Friday comes early for anyone in the market for a Nintendo Switch console, because one of the best Nintendo Switch deals around is available right now. Granted, it’s the same deal Nintendo offers every year around Black Friday, but it’s a good one nevertheless. It gets you a Nintendo Switch console, a digital copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and 3 months of individual Nintendo Switch Online — all for $299.99. That’s the normal price of a Switch on its own, so you’re essentially getting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and three months of online service for free. That’s a better deal than you’ll find on Switch hardware any other time of the year, so grab it if you want it.

Nintendo Switch Game Black Friday Deals

Nintendo Switch Black Friday Game Deals at Walmart

Now that Walmart’s Black Friday sale is officiallly live, the retailer is offering some of the biggest discounts on Nintendo Switch games.

Switch Black Friday Game Deals at Best Buy

The official Best Buy Black Friday sale has already begun, dropping prices on all kinds of items. That includes a large swath of Switch games.

Switch Game Deals at Amazon

Despite announcing Amazon’s Black Friday deals would start on November 17, the online retailer is being sluggish about putting games on sale.

Nintendo Switch Black Friday Deals at GameStop

If it’s Switch games you’re after, you can save 50% off select games at GameStop right now. That includes games like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Super Mario Party, and more for $29.99 or less. You can find the full list of games on sale, regardless of platform, check out all the best GameStop Black Friday deals.

MicroSD Card Black Friday Deals

The Nintendo Switch doesn’t come with all that much onboard storage. If you’re bumping up against the limits of your Switch’s capacity to hold digital games, simply pop in a microSD card to boost its capabilities.

Nintendo eShop Sale is Live

Nintendo is running a big sale of its own on the Nintendo eShop. If you prefer buying your games in digital format, make sure to stock up on digital currency, on sale now for 10% off at Amazon. Do that, and it’s like getting a discount on top of a discount.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is $9.99

While this isn’t a game, it’s certainly Nintendo-related. You can grab a 4K copy of The Super Mario Bros. Movie on sale for under $10. Great deal.

Nintendo Switch Online Black Friday Deal

Amazon is offering select digital Nintendo products for 10% off. You can stock up on Nintendo eShop credit, effectively getting a discount on any game you use it on. Or you can save 10% while subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online, getting you access to things like cloud saves and NES and SNES classics.

Super Mario Party + Joy-Con Bundle

Nintendo has released a new bundle that gets you some delightful blue and red Joy-Con, plus a digital copy of Super Mario Party for $99.99. That’s a big savings on buying the two items separately. And Mario Party is a great local multiplayer game, so it’s definitely worth picking up if you have friends/family over.

Nintendo Switch Black Friday Accessory Deals to Expect

One of the best Switch accessories is the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Last year, it got a Black Friday sale price of $49.99, which is $20 off its usual price. Somehow, no deal on the Pro Controller, or on Joy-Cons aside from the Smash Bros. bundle above, have gone live. Fingers crossed for a surprise discount on Black Friday.

Another must-have Switch accessory, at least if you download digital games from the eShop, is a microSD card (which also compatible with Steam Deck and ROG Ally). Pop one of these tiny storage devices into your Switch, and you can keep more digital games on the device without having to re-download them when you want to play. You’ll can find deep discounts on microSD cards during Black Friday 2023, making it great time to add 128GB, 512GB, or even 1TB of storage to your Switch.

Nintendo Switch Black Friday Console Deals to Expect

Aside from the Switch bundle mentioned above, Nintendo has finally introduced a new Black Friday bundle for Switch. The new Nintendo Switch – OLED Model and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate bundle will be available at select retailers and My Nintendo Store from November 19.

This bundle offer will include a unique Switch OLED model, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (digital download), and three months of Nintendo Switch Online. It will cost $349.99 MSRP, with around $67.98 in savings. This offer marks it as one of the hot items to consider for Switch Black Friday sales (which are officially kicking off from November 17-24 this year).

We won’t likely see much else in the way of console discounts. It’s possible a retailer will knock $50 off the price of a new Nintendo Switch, and maybe even the Switch OLED model or Switch Lite. But that doesn’t typically happen during Black Friday.

That said, in recent months we’ve seen the online retailer Woot (owned by Amazon) drop prices on the Switch OLED to $314.99, down from its usual $349.99 price. So a Black Friday discount is possible.

Where to Find Nintendo Deals on Black Friday

We’ll provide plenty of links to all the best Nintendo deals on Black Friday, but here’s where you can expect to find them. In terms of Switch games, you’ll be able to find deals on them at retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and the like. If you prefer to download games, you’ll be able to find digital Switch games at most of those retailers as well, plus the Nintendo eShop, which you can access directly from your Switch.

The same goes for Nintendo Switch accessories, including Switch headsets and Switch controllers, which should be discounted widely at the usual retailers.

The Best Buy Black Friday sale starts next week and the Walmart Black Friday and Amazon Black Friday sales are likely not far behind. Here’s the Nintendo Switch section at all of the following retailers:

Nintendo Switch Black Friday Shopping Tips

Many of these tips are applicable no matter what you’re shopping for on Black Friday.

  1. Set a Budget – It’s safe to say many of us have massive video game backlogs. Just because you see a game you want on sale doesn’t mean you should buy it immediately. Set a budget and stick to it. Only buy the games you think you’ll play soon.
  2. Make a Wishlist – One of the best ways to keep your Black Friday spending under control is to make a wishlist of games or other items you want to buy, and stick to it. Ignore the deals that aren’t on items you would’ve bought otherwise.
  3. Compare Prices – Sometimes I’ll bite on a Black Friday deal that looks great (say, Link’s Awakening for $39.99). But then I’ll see the very same item on sale for 25% less at another retailer. Before you click the buy button, check the other popular retailers to see if they match (or beat) the sale price.
  4. Snag Particularly Good Deals Fast – If you see a hard-to-believe great deal on a Switch game or accessory, grab it sooner rather than later. Retailers only have so much stock, so it’s likely that the best deals will sell out before Black Friday ends. Grab great deals fast.
  5. Don’t Fret if You Miss Out – If you click on a killer deal and find that it’s sold out, don’t despair. Often times the exact same Black Friday deal will come back in stock on Cyber Monday. And even if not, the next Prime Day will be here before you know it.

Mortal Kombat 1 Is $40 for Black Friday

Heads up, fighting game fans who also happen to enjoy seeing buckets of gore splashed all over the place. Mortal Kombat 1, the latest installment in the longrunning fighting game series, is on sale during Black Friday for $40 on all consoles. It’s a recent release, and it normally costs $70, so a $30 price cut is what’s called a killer deal. That price is only available in the Walmart Black Friday sale (it’s more expensive everywhere else, even where it’s on sale), so grab it before it sells out. You never know when a Black Friday video game deal will sell out.

Mortal Kombat 1 Black Friday Deal

This deal is good on all console versions of the game. That goes for PS5, Xbox Series X, and even the Nintendo Switch port. The question is, is Mortal Kombat 1 worth playing? It sure seems like it is. From our 8/10 Mortal Kombat 1 review:

“Mortal Kombat 1 is another great entry in this legendary series, but it’s not one without issues. The new Kameo system is excellent, there are smart changes to the fighting mechanics that address many of the fundamental issues that cropped up over Mortal Kombat 11’s life, and predictably, the fantastic single-player story mode that continues to be the gold standard of the genre. But certain elements of online play are starting to feel dated, and Invasions mode is not nearly engaging enough to hold my attention for as long as is needed to unlock a majority of the goodies hidden behind its many treasure chests and gimmicky battles. Still, Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise, and it’s a very exciting launching point for the next era.”

The one warning is that the game doesn’t perform great on Nintendo Switch. It’s understandable — it’s a demanding game on Xbox and PS5. Check out our Mortal Kombat 1 Nintendo Switch review for details about how it performs on the relatively under-powered system.

If it’s other deals you’re after, you’ll find plenty going on right now. You can check out Amazon’s Black Friday sale, or check out Best Buy’s Black Friday sale.

BallisticNG’s 2023 trailer reminds you there’s a great Wipeout homage on PC

Every so often a new game surfaces that aims to be a successor to classic, stylish, mid-’90s antigrav racer Wipeout. Released back in 2018, BallisticNG was among the better attempts, managing to capture the speed and a little of the style while hewing close to the chunky polgyonal style of the PlayStation 1-era original.

Fast Forward five years and BallisticNG has been regularly updated since that initial launch, and a new trailer to mark its release on GOG is keen to brag about

The Best Black Friday SSD Deals: Get a 2TB PS5 SSD with Heatsink for Under $100

Black Friday has officially started and there are already plenty of deals to be found on SSDs for your PlayStation 5 console or gaming PC. This is unquestionably best time of year to score a fast and reliable PS5 compatible gaming SSD at the lowest price possible. Most of these deals we’ve found so far are part of the Amazon Black Friday Sale, although some may be price-matched elsewhere as well.

If you’re looking for PS5 games or accessories, check out the best PlayStation Black Friday deals.

Black Friday Deal: Silicon Power 2TB PS5 SSD with Heatsink for $98.99

The Silicon Power XS70 is currently the least expensive 2TB PS5 SSD on Amazon. This SSD comes preinstalled with a robust aluminum heatsink that’s designed to fit perfectly in your PS5 console. The XS70 boasts transfer speeds of up to 7300MB/s read and 6800MB/s write, comfortably faster than the 5500MB/s minimum recommended requirement. At this price, there’s no reason to pick another, more expensive SSD if your one and only purpose was to use it for your PS5 console.

Black Friday Deal: Nextorage 2TB PS5 SSD with Heatsink for $99.99

There’s an interesting story behind Nextorage Japan. Nextorage describes itself as a company that was “created by a group of ex-Sony engineers and staff with over 20 years of experience in the development of memory and storage products”. Nextorage was actually originally created by Sony in 2019 as an SSD sub-division about a year before the PS5 was released. Presumably this was to be the basis for an official SSD sold by Sony themselves. For whatever reason, Sony decided to ditch that idea and sold this business to another stakeholder in the company, Phison, in 2022. Phison is another large reputable company that specializes in solid state memory controllers. You’ll find their controllers in name-brand SSDs like Seagate, Corsair, and Sabrent. Under Phison, Nextorage Japan eventually accomplished the goal of releasing an SSD catered specifically for the PS5 console in the form of this product right here.

Black Friday Deal: Seagate Game Drive 2TB SSD with Heatsink for $149.99

Now here’s an SSD you don’t see discounted often. The Seagate Game Drive is only the second SSD to be officially licensed for the PlayStation console. What that means is this SSD is pretty much guaranteed to work with your PS5 with no problems whatsoever. It’s pricier than the other options in this list, but it’s still a hefty discount off MSRP and the lowest price we’ve seen. Seagate is a very reputable brand.

Black Friday Deal: WD Black SN850X 4TB PS5 SSD for $229.99

The SN850X is the latest generation of WD’s flagship Black series M.2 SSDs. It’s easily one of the fastest SSDs on the market. There are only a few SSDs out right now that can match its speed. Off the top of my head, the only SSDs I can think of are the new Samsung 990 Pro and the SK Hynix P41 Platinum. The SN850X also makes for an excellent PS5 SSD. It is identical to the SN850P, which is an officially licensed PS5 SSD. The only caveat is that this particular model doesn’t include a built-in heatsink. That is easily remedied by picking up a PS5 heatsink off Amazon for $7.

Black Friday Deal: Samsung 990 Pro 4TB PS5 SSD for $249.99

The 990 Pro is Samsung’s flagship SSD and it is the fastest PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs on the market. Samsung claims a 50% improved performance per watt over its Samsung 980 Pro predecessor. It boasts blazing sequential speeds of 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write and random speeds of 1400K/1550K IOPS. Unlike most other SSDs, the components are manufactured in-house. The Samsung 990 Pro works superbly in your PS5, but from a purely performance perspective it’s overkill. Pick up PS5 heatsink off Amazon for $7.

All the Black Friday SSD Deals for your PS5 Console

What is a PS5-compatible SSD?

An SSD that expands your PS5’s storage is essentially the same SSD that goes into your gaming PC. However, because of the PS5 has certain requirements that must be met for full compatibility. These are:

  • The SSD and its heatsink must fit in the PS5 drive bay (requirement)
  • The SSD must have a PCIe 4.0 interface (requirement)
  • The SSD should have a minimum read speed of 5600MB/s (recommended)
  • The SSD should have a heatsink for proper cooling (recommended)

An SSD that is slower than 5,600MB/s should still work. In fact, if it’s close to the rated speed, you may never notice any difference. The reason Sony gives this recommendation is that the stock SSD that comes with the PS5 is rated at 5,600MB/s. If you add a slower SSD, you will bottleneck your stock SSD.

Likewise, you may not need a heatsink. SSDs are rated for higher temps than what you’d normally expect to achieve even inside a PS5 that’s running fult tilt. However, there’s no real airflow around the SSD bay and SSDs do get pretty hot. We’d recommend getting a preinstalled heatsink or installing one yourself for peace of mind and potentially to prevent thermal throttling and extending the lifespan of your SSD.

Can I use this SSD in my gaming PC?

Absolutely! PS5-compatible SSDs will work with any PC with an available M.2 slot that supports PCIe 4.0 M.2 solid state drives. In fact, if you get a PS5-compatible SSD, you’re essentially guaranteed to get an SSD that’s going to perform extremely well because of the higher rated speed.
