PSA: Got A Switch 2 Pro Controller? This Little Capture Trick Is A Game-Changer

Snap happy.

With the Switch 2’s new Pro Controller (and the new Charging Grip, actually), one of the biggest changes from its predecessor is the addition of the ‘GL’ and GR’ buttons on the back.

Now, if you’re anything like us, then chances are these buttons probably won’t get a whole lot of use in terms of gameplay. Sure, maybe you could map a jump button to one of them if you’re playing an FPS, but generally speaking, most games will have been optimised to make good use of the standard button layout. You don’t want to alienate those just using the standard Joy-Con, after all.

Here’s a step-by-step walkthrough.

Switch 2 is here and users are slowly discovering all sorts of compatibility issues with select games and accessories. If you happen to own an 8BitDo controller, you might have noticed it’s simply not working with Nintendo’s new hybrid device.

Highway to Shell.

Editor’s note: Having only gotten our hands on the game and the new system extremely recently, this is — as you can see from the title — a review in progress. We just haven’t had enough time with it yet, but we wanted to share our initial impressions (seeing as we’re all playing it at once).

Talking Point: Does Your Switch 2 Vent Smell?

Not unpleasant, necessarily.

Most of us here at Team NL, like many of you, have been unwrapping shiny new consoles today as Switch 2 arrives, finally. Nothing like the smell of new hardware in the morning, right?

Having said that, while we’ve been getting to grips with the new console, some of us have noticed an aroma. Not an unpleasant one, you understand, but a distinctly warm, electronic smell rising from the console’s top vent – as you might expect from a high-performance video gaming device being played for the first time.

The Switch 2 GameCube Controller Has Gyro And A Better D-Pad

Old is new again.

It’s all busted open controllers over on Reddit today, and in particular brand new controllers that people have received with their Switch 2 consoles.

We’ve already seen a stripped-down Joy-Con, confirming (as Nintendo had already actually said) there’s no Hall Effect sticks in there, and now it’s the turn of the dear old GameCube controller in its new NSO form. Please remember that this controller, for now at least, only works on Switch 2, too (we tried it).

Update: It’s Home screen & UI tour time!

With discoverability on the bloated Switch eShop causing headaches for players and devs alike, you can sometimes forget how slow the shopping experience on Switch can be. Likewise, though Nintendo hasn’t bogged down the main system menu with ornamental additions, navigating the system menus is hardly a snappy experience, either.

Well, it seems like Switch 2 is going to be a big upgrade in that department, as evidenced in this first look at the new Switch 2 eShop (which is now live) and the system’s menus, courtesy of VGC editor-in-chief and lucky blighter Andy Robinson, who took delivery of a Switch 2 earlier today.
