Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Is Seemingly Going Physical In North America Too

New listing suggests physical is not import-only.

Earlier this year, we were excited to hear that even more courtroom drama would be heading our way in 2024 with Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy. A physical was later announced for Japan and while a multi-language version would be available to import, it looked like the collection would be digital-only in the West. Well, it looks like all that is changing.

Revealed in a recent post from Twitter account @Wario64, an ESRB-rated physical is now available to pre-order from the Canadian store Video Games Plus for $64.99 CAD (roughly $47 USD / £38). This North American version is still set to release on 25th January 2024, but will not require the import costs that we previously thought would be our only play option.

Honeycomb: The World Beyond is above-ground Subnautica with bioengineering and hoverboards

I was just pondering writing something about Subnautica, inspired by news that there’s a new Subnautica project on the boil, and along comes the decidedly Subnautica-esque Honeycomb: The World Beyond with a new trailer. Developed by Polish team Frozen Way, whose other projects include, erm, Hairdresser Simulator, it casts you as Hennessy, a human xenobiologist who is starting afresh on the alien planet of Sota7.

As in Unknown Worlds’ survival sim, you’ll search various biomes for resources, build solar-powered habitats on stilts with nice, wide windows, and gradually amass a database of local animals and plants. Unlike in Subnautica, you won’t be constantly at risk of suffocation.

Black Friday Xbox Accessories: Deals on Controllers, SSDs, and More

We’re sure you’re going to spend today smothered in a mound of turkey, but don’t get so caught up that you forget it’s Black Friday tomorrow. Very busy, many things to buy.

Xbox is a great place to play, and as part of Black Friday sales, you can grab tons of great things for your Xbox (whether you already have one, or you are just getting an Xbox now). From stylish controllers to additional storage options, we’ve got a list of the best Xbox accessories you’ll need to make the most of your play.

Xbox Expansion Card Black Friday Deal for $124.99

The WD Black C50 expansion card is a 1TB NVME SSD in a specialized Xbox-compatible form factor. Unlike the PS5 SSD installation process, which involves opening up the PS5 to access the SSD slot, the Seagate expansion card simply plugs into its dedicated port on the back of the Xbox. Easy peasy.

This expansion card also offers the same speed as the internal SSD, meaning you’ll still get the same fast load speeds, access to Quick Resume, and all of that. With a 1TB expansion card, you can double the storage on your Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S Carbon Black Edition console, and triple the storage on your OG (white) Xbox Series S console.

That easy installation and seamless functioning comes with a cost, though. In contrast to the PS5, there are no other high speed storage options for your Xbox console (although you can use a standard USB external drive, you’ll lose Quick Resume and high load speeds). Your options are limited to either the WD or Seagate expansion cards, so if that interests you, now is the time to strike.

Save Over 20% on An Xbox Controller During Black Friday

This Xbox Series X|S controller is an improvement, even over the Xbox One model. With an improved D-Pad, a new Share button, and a USB-C charging port, it’s my favorite controller to use, whether on Xbox or PC. The Xbox Controller can be used seamlessly across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Android iOS, and PC. With Bluetooth functionality, you can easily connect to whatever device you wish. Additionally, you can connect it to your Nintendo Switch or other gaming device with a USB adapter. This makes it a great choice if you’re in the market for a fantastic ‘all-around’ controller.

If you like color variants, you can also snag the Astral Purple Xbox controller.

Other Xbox Accessories for Black Friday 2023

Whether you are hopping online for some multiplayer, or just want to get the best audio immersion for your games, having a good gaming headset is a fantastic idea. Right now you can get the official Xbox headset or opt to go for the Turtle Beach Series X/S headset.

The Xbox Wireless comes with Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, DTS support and has noise canceling tech in it. It also has Bluetooth, so you can pair it with all kinds of things. The Turtle Beach headset uses a proprietary wireless connection, so your connection options are more limited.

The Logitech G920 wheel and pedals is discounted by $100, which is a great deal for one of the absolute best racing wheels around. If you are a Forza fan, this is a great way to take the sim racer experience to the next level, or even the arcade experience with Forza Horizon and other racing games.

Be sure to check out the best Xbox Black Friday deals live right now, including the best Xbox Series X Black Friday bundle and a Black Friday Xbox Series S deal that’s among the best around.

South Park: Snow Day’s 3D Art Style Is Putting Off Some Fans

THQ Nordic has released its best look yet at upcoming multiplayer game South Park: Snow Day in an official gameplay trailer, but some fans are a little put off by its 3D art style.

The one-minute trailer shows off the action-adventure role-playing game which, unlike South Park itself and the critically acclaimed Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole games from Ubisoft, features a 3D art style instead of 2D. Fans haven’t responded particularly well to this switch, with a Reddit post discussing the gameplay trailer full of criticism for Snow Day’s graphics.

“I don’t think South Park’s art style translates well to 3D and the characters look really out of place in the high resolution snowy environment,” said Pacmantis. “Yeah, the 3D reminds me of the old attempts to make a South Park game from the 90s and 2000s. It never translates well,” replied MyCoolWhiteLies.

Plenty of other users agreed. “I don’t know why they would go for 3D. They already nailed it a decade ago with Stick of Truth by just making it look indistinguishable from the show,” said one. “This doesn’t look good at all. Really jarring art style,” said another. “South Park doesn’t work well as a 3D game,” said a third.

Comparisons to the Ubisoft games were also frequent. “The Stick of Truth was magic, like being dropped in a playable episode, and The Fractured But Whole was almost as good. This one seems like a severe regression,” said likwitsnake. “I just want another turn based South Park RPG like Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole, not this,” added ImJustSaiyan.

X/Twitter users aren’t responding particularly well either. “I’m sorry but 3D South Park just feels wrong, especially after the last couple of RPGs have been able to achieve true-to-the-show presentation,” said @FizzVsTheWorld.

Another user, @Truly_Defective, posted an image of the South Park cast crying alongside the caption: “Everyone who was alive to see South Park on the Nintendo 64 seeing 3D South Park graphics again.”

While there was some positive comments, and some fans who did like the art direction, a lot of users were also left confused by what the actual gameplay loop is.

Snow Day was announced in August 2023 as a co-op multiplayer game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC next year. It focuses on Cartman and the crew as they celebrate not having school for the day due to inclement weather.

It’s being developed by Question Games, the studio behind 2015 fantasy puzzle game The Magic Circle and 2019 first person horror The Blackout Club.

The 2TB Crucial P5 Plus SSD has hit its lowest-ever price in the Black Friday sales

I know this is the second Crucial P5 Plus deal we’ve posted about in two days, but hey, it’s Black Friday week. ‘Tis the season. Besides, this time there’s something for us Britain-dwelling lot as well, as the 2TB P5 Plus’s price has been slashed 60% to £88 on Amazon UK – the lowest it’s ever been.

This is, to be clear, an almost mystifyingly small amount of money for a 2TB NVMe SSD that’s also capable of real high-end transfer speeds and game load times. Maybe not to the standards of its successor, the Crucial T500, but this is still a competitively quick-acting drive with oodles of space for game installations. The same goes for its heatsink-equipped edition, which also happens to be on sale in the US at $88, making it (currently) cheaper than the non-heatsink 2TB model. Good deals all round, then – told you ‘twas the season.

Stunning Zelda Fan-Film Reimagines Ocarina of Time as a Studio Ghibli Movie

What if Zelda: Ocarina of Time was the basis of a Studio Ghibli movie? It might look like this stunning fan-film, put together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest video games of all time.

Creator RwanLink spent a whopping 600 hours across four months rebuilding Hyrule Castle Town in super detailed fashion using Unreal Engine 5. There are four environments and over 30 characters in the test animation.

The fan-film is published here with permission from RwanLink. You can check out RwanLink’s YouTube channel here.

The 18-minute film kicks off in heart-breaking fashion with the death of the Deku Tree. With Navi in tow, Link heads off to Hyrule Castle. Castle Town is bustling (yes, there are chickens and empty bottles), packed with market traders and customers. Link enjoys a spot of playtime with a dog, and fans of Ocarina of Time will spot some familiar faces for sure.

Link spots a royal guard escorting Zelda to the castle and gives chase. A couple of nefarious characters (you know who) turn up for an audience with the king. Beware, Link!

The video then shows off a third-person perspective. RwanLink stresses the project was made as a film and not a video game, but it gives us a tantalising glimpse at what a Zelda game made in the Studio Ghibli style might look like.

Of course, Nintendo is working on an official Zelda movie, although it’s live-action, not animated. And Nintendo is also hard at work on a brand new Zelda game, which may or may not be another Breath of the Wild sequel.

Knuckle Sandwich review: a turn-based RPG that’s a little too random

Made by solo dev Andy Brophy, Knuckle Sandwich is a turn-based RPG that’s about guiding a bloke through an island paradise and eventually uncovering some weird mystery. Its main hook? Turn-based battles are filled with WarioWare-style minigames, many of which are unique to the kooky residents or rats you come up against. Unfortunately, I’d say its main hook is actually its most painful barb, and one you’re barely able to extract by flicking some switches in the settings menu. A shame then, as exploring its strange world and absorbing its bonkers story beats is a wonderful thing marred by dire fights.

New Tribes Game Emerges 11 Years After Tribes: Ascend Came Out

A brand new Tribes game is in development, and fresh details on it have begun to emerge.

Tribes is a multiplayer sci-fi FPS series, often dubbed ‘the world’s fastest shooter’, that saw five releases from 1998 to 2012. The most recent entry, the critically acclaimed Tribes: Ascend, was developed by Hi-Rez Studios years before it released Smite, Paladins, and Rogue Company.

The new Tribes, which has yet to receive an official title, is in development at Prophecy Games, a new studio founded in late 2019 within the Hi-Rez Studios umbrella. But in early 2020, Prophecy spun off from Hi-Rez to become an independent studio — and it looks like it took Tribes with it.

FPS-Z reports fresh playtests for the new Tribes game kick off soon, and published a number of screenshots from a previous playtest. These images provide us with our first look at the new Tribes game, which does not have a release window.

According to FPS-Z, the new Tribes is still in early development, and so the images do not reflect the current state of the game. However, they’re indicative of the look and style of the new Tribes, which rekindles memories of Tribes: Ascend. That perhaps shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given some of the people who worked on Tribes: Ascend at Hi-Rez are apparently now working on this new Tribes game at Prophecy Games.

Prophecy Games has one game under its belt: a free-to-play sci-fi “corridor extraction shooter” called Starsiege: Deadzone. It launched in early access form on Steam in July to ‘mixed’ user reviews.

Meanwhile, Tribes: Ascend is still playable online, although it’s unlisted on the Steam store and will not appear in search.

KnifePlayground is an Unreal horror royale with bodycam combat, demon clowns and a shapeshifting mansion

Let’s get this out of the way first: KnifePlayground: Horror Battle Royale is an absolutely terrible name for game. You might as well call Halo “GunMap: Alien Crowd Control”, or Baldur’s Gate 3 “TownDungeon: Party Enhancement Simulator”. But the project beneath the moniker has something to it. Announced just today and created by small Brazilian team MadMozer, it’s a first-person, multiplayer-focussed, Unreal Engine deathgame that traps you in a randomly generated mansion with a bunch of archetypal horror movie munsters – demon clowns, cursed puppets, toothy ghouls and hooded axe-murderers.
