Tekken 8 Director Promises to Improve Wi-Fi Online Play After Closed Network Test

Tekken 8’s director promised to improve online play following feedback from the closed network test last month.

In an interview with IGN, Katsuhiro Harada told us what the development team learned from Tekken 8’s closed network test: “We were foreseeing some problems that we wanted to actually test out in this environment, and we did encounter those problems,” Harada explained.

He also pointed out that the development team was “surprised that the feedback was better than we expected” in regards to the participating player’s online connection.

“But on the flip side,” he continued, “we were surprised that the feedback was better than we expected regarding the players’ experience on the online connection, that they actually felt that the game felt pretty good over pretty substantial distances, I guess you could say.”

Harada added that there was a “great disparity” between those using a LAN cable and those that were on Wi-Fi, vowing to “fine-tune” the experience just a bit for those that are playing over a wireless connection online.

Tekken 8 does not have a release date as of yet, but hopefully will get one soon. What we do know is that when it launches it will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. For more, check out our first impressions piece by IGN’s Mitchell Saltzman.

“Hopefully they can iron out the network issues, and if they do, I’m confident we’ll have a great new combatant for the King of Iron Fist Tournament,” Saltzman wrote.

Modern Warfare 3’s first campaign gameplay trailer sure looks like more COD

Over a long beer and some (Ed: very crispy, hotel) cheeseburgers, Katharine and I tuned into this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live having just arrived at our hotel. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s campaign reveal happened to be on, and I predicted it would feature three things: darkness, rain, and goggles. I was right! Even though there was mention of more “open ended” COD missions, the one shown certainly seemed like any vintage, largely linear COD level.

Quantic Dream Announces Dustborn at Gamescom Opening Night Live

Quantic Dream announced Dustborn, a narrative-driven action-adventure game set in an alternate version of America.

We got the first trailer for Dustborn at Gamescom Opening Night Live, which shows players will have the opportunity to venture across a Neo-Western America as they build relationships with their crew. Dustborn is described as “a single-player, story-driven action-adventure game about hope, love, friendships, robots…and the power of words.”

Important to note that Quantic Dream is not developing this game. Instead, they will serve as the publisher, while indie studio Red Thread Games is behind the development of Dustborn. Red Thread Games previously developed 2019’s Draugen, a mystery adventure game released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

No release date for Dustborn yet. But we do know that it will be available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, PS4, and Xbox.

Cyberpunk 2077 Continues to Evolve with Breathtaking New Ways to Play

Summary

  • CD Projekt Red is bringing new ways to play to Cyberpunk 2077, including revamped skill trees, a redesigned police system, vehicle combat, and much more.
  • Unveiled at gamescom 2023’s Opening Night Live, the latest trailer showed off the exciting new location and exclusive gameplay elements coming with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
  • Players also had a chance to see the massive game overhauls arriving as part of the free Update 2.0.

We at CD Projekt Red were thrilled to unveil just some of what we’ve been working on ahead of the launch of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The latest “New Ways to Play” trailer, which premiered at gamescom’s Opening Night Live, took players inside Dogtown to show off some of the new open-world activities, gameplay mechanics, vehicles, and more arriving with the expansion this September 26. But as we mentioned onstage, some of what we showed off will be free to next-gen players as part of Update 2.0! Let’s dive into the trailer to tease out just what cool features are coming to Phantom Liberty — and what to expect for the rest of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

Most of the high-octane action in the trailer took place inside the walled-off district of Dogtown, an exclusive Phantom Liberty location and the heart of its spy-thriller story. The crumbling high rises and abandoned construction sites littering the area are a testament to the living conditions under the rule of local warlord Kurt Hansen. Unsurprisingly, a district this deadly and lawless comes with some fun new ways to make eddies.

You may have noticed an interesting orange case spewing smoke in the trailer. Due to its separation from the rest of Night City, Dogtown has some… interesting methods of getting supplies in. And hey, it’s only fair to share the wealth, right? In Phantom Liberty, we’re adding infinitely replayable airdrop missions with a variety of enemies and scenarios to face, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take down scavs and other opportunists in Dogtown.

On top of that, expect a brand-new type of gig: courier missions. Race through the streets of Dogtown and Night City to deliver preem rides — just be careful, you’re not the only one who wants to get their hands on these wheels. We’re going one step further and introducing vehicle-mounted weaponry in Phantom Liberty, meaning you can rule the road like never before. Of course, you can always shoot through your windshield or hack enemy vehicles if you prefer a more subtle approach.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

We’ll also be adding a whole new Relic skill tree — the trailer gave a taste of some of the abilities coming with it, including the possibility of upping the ante with various types of cyberware. We can’t show off everything just yet, but it’s the perfect complement to the spy-thriller adventure you’re about to embark on.

The Relic skill tree slots in well to the skills and perks overhaul we’re introducing in Update 2.0, created for the purpose of giving players new ways of developing meaningful and unique builds. Want to knock out your enemies by throwing their downed friends at them? The new Savage Sling perk is perfect for you! For those interested in evasive maneuvers, Dash and Airdash make it harder for enemies to target you while helping you get right into range. And with new, unique finishers, there are plenty of ways to zero an enemy in style.

And vehicle combat isn’t just a Phantom Liberty exclusive — with Update 2.0, expect roadblocks, high-octane shootouts, and of course, MaxTac. Police will respond accordingly to your heat level, setting additional traps, trying to ram you off the road, and eventually calling in the big guns once they’re convinced you’ve gone full cyberpsycho.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

From ripperdocs and cyberware to overhauled combat AI and a revamped take on perks, there will be plenty to discover when Update 2.0 launches. And with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty coming out on September 26, we at CD Projekt Red can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on this spy-thriller adventure. Stay tuned to our socials for more information ahead of the launch — Dogtown’s waiting!

Little Nightmares III introduces co-op to the franchise

A particular greeting to those who survived the Maw and the Pale City, brace yourselves, for you might not be so lucky at our next destination.

It’s with great pleasure that we now prepare you to return to our charming world of darkest dreams known as The Nowhere.

Welcome to Little Nightmares III.

In Little Nightmares III, we expect no less than what we have always expected from you children: courage, cleverness, and imagination. If you think you’ve come well-equipped, please proceed (at your own risk).

Little Nightmares III introduces co-op to the franchise

For the first time in the Little Nightmares franchise, you can face these new horrors with a friend using online co-op. Or, if you’d rather embark on this journey by yourself, you’ll also be able to play solo with an AI companion.

You’ll play as Low and Alone. Two lost children seeking a way out of this gloomy world and trying to escape a greater threat lurking in the shadows.

Low and Alone are each equipped with their own iconic items that will allow you to solve various puzzles and defend yourself against the new and dangerous challenges that await you. You’ll be able to interact with the world using Low’s bow and arrows and Alone’s wrench, but you’ll also need your wits, tenacity, and creativity to survive your trip across the Spiral.

The game’s first chapter takes place in the desert sands and ruins of The Necropolis, a city of eternal energy and certain death powered by gusting winds. The ancient metropolis is now more of a ghost town. And it’s unclear what happened to its inhabitants, but perhaps a giant baby had something to do with it.

The Necropolis is the home of Monster Baby, a new Resident with swiveling doll-like eyes who is, due to her bulk, an agent of sheer destructive force. She may not seem cruel or malevolent at first sight, but her size, clumsiness, and curiosity might become dangerous for our dear Visitors.

Low and Alone will have to find a way to navigate these ruins while staying out of her way – and Monster Baby is far from the only danger they’ll face.

So, are you ready to dive deeper into the twisted world of Little Nightmares III?

The game will be released on PS5 & PS4 in 2024.

Sonic Frontiers The Final Horizon Update Coming This Year

At Gamescom Opening Night Live, it was revealed that a free content update is coming to Sonic Frontiers later this year. The Final Horizon update will include new story, new playable characters, and new challenges.

In the cinematic trailer, Sonic and team face off against a large ominous enemy before Sonic harnesses the power of the Chaos Emeralds and transforms into Super Sonic.

In our 7/10 review of Sonic Frontiers, we called the game “an ambitious open-world adventure that mostly succeeds at mixing up the Sonic formula, even when some of its ideas fall flat.”

Sonic Frontiers The Final Horizon will arrive as a free content update on September 28.

Killing Floor 3 announced, continuing the co-op monster mash FPS

Cooperative horror FPS series Killing Floor will return for another monster mash (hopefully it’ll be a graveyard smash) in Killing Floor 3, developers Tripwire Interactive announced today. Sadly they’ve said little about the game and shown even less but yup, once again you and your pals will get to fight through hordes of wacky bioengineered monsters. Honestly, science was a mistake. Isaac Downtown and his pal Harry Stottle owe us all an apology.

Age of Empire IV: Anniversary Edition Is Available Now on Xbox

At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Xbox and Relic Entertainment announced that Age of Empires IV is now available on Xbox consoles.

First revealed last October during the Age of Empires 25th Anniversary Broadcast, Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition is now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass. The game was originally launched on PC in 2021.

The console versions of Xbox feature native inputs for those using an Xbox wireless controller with a UI designed specifically for the console versions. To ensure new players to the series are not overwhelmed, Relic Entertainment confirmed that the console versions of Age of Empires IV have a new tutorial designed to ease them in.

Another new change introduced in Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition is the Villager Priority System, which Relic Entertainment describes as a “brand new system that allows for accelerated play,” noting that it allows players to assign their villagers to focus on specific areas of resource gathering with just the press of a button.

The Xbox version supports up to 4K resolution on Series X, 1080p on Series S, 1440p on Xbox One X, and 900p on other Xbox One devices. Additionally, the Xbox Series X supports 60fps and the Series S supports up to 60fps, with the Xbox being uptimizing for up to 30fps.

In our review of Age of Empires IV, which we gave an 8 out of 10 and said, “Age of Empires 4 is an enjoyable RTS throwback that often plays it too safe, but excels when it doesn’t.”
