Tower of Fantasy launches on Aug 8, new character Liu Huo revealed

Greetings, Wanderers! Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of boundless exploration and adrenaline-pumping battles. Tower of Fantasy, the immersive open-world RPG brought to you by Perfect World Games, is making its grand debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on August 8th (UTC+0), and pre-order is officially open today. Brace yourselves as you craft your very own one-of-a-kind character and embark on an unforgettable journey, either alone or alongside your friends. This world awaits your arrival.

Let’s dive into some of the amazing features that will make your journey truly extraordinary.

Liu Huo, the fierce fighter with an artistic soul

After the release on PlayStation, all wanderers can take an adventure in the map called Domain 9, filled with eastern aesthetics. You’ll also encounter an intriguing character named Liu Huo—a spirited and formidable girl with an undeniable passion for martial arts. She loves to wear a vibrant red dress reflecting her prowess in combat and her role as the guardian of Farewellville. However, there’s more to Liu Huo than meets the eye. Beyond her rough exterior lies a burning passion for the arts, particularly painting, and calligraphy. Join Liu Huo as she strives to balance her pursuit of elegance with her spirited nature, and witness firsthand the extraordinary journey that awaits her.

To reflect Liu Huo’s personality, we put a lot of thought into designing her appearance, combat actions, and skill effects. There are many eastern elements can be found in Liu Huo’s appearance. Her outer garment is made of silk with embroidered golden patterns on the collar. Her weapon is a giant brush called Pine Comet, which suits her refined taste. Additionally, the character “霸”  is written on her legs, symbolizing her dominant personality.

When designing her combat moves, we fused calligraphy and martial arts, capturing the essence of ink painting. We utilized vibrant blue and orange flames to intensify the visual impact, employing brushstrokes to convey varying levels of intensity. As Liu Huo unleashes her weapon “Pine Comet” in battle, it’s as if she wields a brush, evoking a formidable presence. However, keen-eyed observers familiar with Chinese characters might catch a stroke error. It appears that Liu Huo still has room to grow on her path to be a real artist.

Immersive PS5 features

The DualSense wireless controller allows us to provide an immersive experience through haptic feedback. During intense battles, when hitting enemies or facing moments of crisis with significant blood loss, the controller’s haptics help you accurately assess the current combat environment. Outside of combat, appropriate haptics during key story moments create a thrilling experience. When racing, the controller’s vibrations accompany intense collisions, making it feel like a steering wheel and immersing you in the excitement of high-speed racing.

Moreover, you can communicate with teammates through the controller’s built-in microphone, making the vast world less lonely.

At the same time, the stunning 4K graphics and visual effects of the PS5 provide players with a high-resolution gaming experience. Currently, Tower of Fantasy features diverse map styles, including the sci-fi wasteland style of Aesperia, the cyberpunk metropolis of Mirroria, the deep underwater world of Innars, and the upcoming magical eastern world of Domain 9. In the 4K mode on PlayStation, the neon lights of Mirroria become mesmerizing, the Grand Sea undergoes dynamic changes, and the clouds and red maple of Domain 9 exhibit a mysterious eastern charm, further enhancing the visual experience.

Final Fantasy Racing Game Chocobo GP Gets Rid of Its Free-To-Play Version and Microtransactions

Square Enix quietly updated the Final Fantasy racing game Chocobo GP a few days ago and it now allows players to unlock all in-game items without spending any money as the game no longer features any microtransactions.

Spotted by Nintendeal, the game’s eShop listing was updated to say “Release date: June 15, 2023.” There were two versions of the game – its free-to-play Chocobo GP Lite and Chocobo GP – and both of them were filled with microtransactions, despite the latter being priced at $50.

While it seems like the game has been free of microtransactions for a while, this new version makes all of the timed-exclusive content readily available to unlock, including new vehicle colors that were tied to certain seasons. Players can now also simply grind to unlock characters and costumes.

On the eShop, the new download is actually just the Chocobo GP Lite version with an upgrade to receive the full version. Those who already downloaded Lite should just purchase the “upgrade to the full game” DLC instead.

Back in May, Square Enix announced that it would be discontinuing Chocobo GP Lite in all regions on June 1. The Mythril currency would lose its value on May 31, but those who already downloaded the game could still continue playing as well as upgrade to the full version.

While it’s exciting that players turned off by the microtransactions and free-to-play mechanics of Chocobo GP may now have a reason to check out the game, Square Enix did announce back in December 2022 that there will be “no further large scale updates (e.g. new characters or new maps) to the game after the Season 5 update on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.”

That being said, there is still a lot of content in the game and may be worth a look for those who need a little more Final Fantasy in their lives before Final Fantasy 16 arrives.

Feature: The Mysterious Absence Of A Famicom Gem On Switch

Castle’s in the air.

Something very mysterious is going on with a sadly obscure but fondly remembered gem from the Famicom era. It was built on the same game engine as the original Legend of Zelda, but unlike Link who decades on remains at the vaunted heights of gaming’s all-time greats, the protagonist of this bygone classic never even got a proper international release in its day, never mind a sequel.

Spare a thought, then, for the lone samurai Takamaru.

How Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is bringing a modern RTS experience to Xbox players

Summary

  • Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is a major new real-time strategy created in partnership with Games Workshop®, coming soon to Xbox Series X|S.
  • Wage war and dominate the battlefield playing as either the Stormcast Eternals or Orruk Kruleboyz to win the battle.
  • DirectStep™ is Frontier Developments’ innovative new RTS control scheme, designed to bring the flexibility of keyboard and mouse controls to an Xbox controller

A retinues of the Stormcast Eternals’ hammer-wielding Liberators are making their way across the battlefield with one goal: to capture a Victory Point, which will determine the outcome of the battle. To do so they’ll have to fend off hordes of Gutrippaz, the cruel and cunning infantry of the vicious Orruk Kruleboyz – not to mention navigate difficult terrain that’ll slow down their movement and leave them vulnerable.

As the Stormcast Eternals gather resources, their forces grow in power, however, their more powerful units, like the Wyrmflame Stormdrake Guard and winged Prosecutors, soon enter the fray to take control of the battle – at the same time, however, the Kruleboyz unleash massing hordes of enemies and large monsters like the towering Mirebrute Troggoth to wipe these champions of Order out.

It’s not going to be an easy fight. But it’s going to be a heck of a lot of fun to watch.

This is what it’s like to play a multiplayer match in Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, a major real-time strategy game based on Games Workshop’s® fantasy universe and developed by Frontier Developments, coming soon to Xbox Series X|S. Presenting a modern take on a much-loved genre, you’ll enjoy a narrative-driven campaign told from multiple perspectives, then jump into online, where you’ll select one of four distinctive factions in both 1v1 and 2v2 competitive cross-platform multiplayer modes (though you can play against the AI too, if you’d prefer). Each faction plays differently, and the battle changes drastically as players unlock each tier of the tech tree and new combatants enter the field.

Realms of Ruin presents players with a modern take on the RTS game, offering both genre newbies and hardened veterans a quickfire and compelling pick-up-and-play multiplayer experience. Built equally for PC and consoles, it was our goal from the start to ensure players could enjoy a comfortable yet flexible real-time strategy interface on Xbox.

That’s why we’ve created DirectStep™ for your Xbox controller, which does exactly that. In Realms of Ruin, you can give orders to selected squads by using a heading indicator. Pushing the left joystick in the desired direction and hitting the X button will allow you to rapidly snap a chain of movement orders together using the heading indicator, sending your squads across the battlefield in the direction you choose. The length of the heading indicator – and therefore how far the squad will move from a single order – is impacted by the zoom level of the camera, allowing for precise orders to be given when the camera is pulled right into the field of view. You can toggle both Direct and Attack movement orders, too, with the latter ordering your troops to engage any enemies they encounter along the way.

The right stick offers complete 360 degree control of the camera, giving you total command over the view of the battlefield – meaning you get the opportunity to enjoy the game’s authentic, high-fidelity and beautifully-animated Age of Sigmar units fighting up close. Or, if you’d prefer to zoom out for a classic RTS perspective, we put that choice in your hands.

Realms of Ruin’s controller interface does much more than enable simple movement orders on Xbox, too. If you want to select another squad elsewhere on the battlefield, all you have to do is tilt the left analogue stick towards the intended target and tap the A button. This instantly puts control of that squad in your hands, letting you jump around the map to control the tide of conflict on multiple fronts as you see fit. If you’d prefer more traditional RTS movement orders, pushing the left stick in will toggle Reticule Mode. This disconnects the camera from selected squads and allows for free camera movement, which can be used for plotting individual orders at greater distances. You can even hotkey groups of units using the d-pad, giving you even more instantaneous control of your armies.

Ultimately, the goal with DirectStep™ is to provide fast-paced inputs and fluid gameplay for players of any ability – whether they’re familiar with the heritage of RTS games on Xbox, or if they’re totally new and want to jump into a scrap for the first time.

Players will be able to try DirectStep for themselves on July 7 to July 9, when the Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin Open Beta comes to Xbox. Both the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Kruleboyz factions will be playable in 1v1 competitive matches. A second open beta will follow later this summer. Head to our official website if you’d like to learn more about it – we look forward to seeing you on the battlefields of the Mortal Realm Ghur!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is coming soon to Xbox Series X|S, and we can’t wait to tell you more about the remaining factions and ways to enjoy the game as we get closer to launch.

Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin’s story campaign will have plenty of “meat” on its bones

Next month’s open beta for Frontier Developments’ new Warhammer RTS Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin may be focused on testing its 1v1 multiplayer mode, but the Elite Dangerous studio have told me there’s still plenty to look forward to in its single-player story campaign. I got to chat with principal designer Sandro Sammarco last week, and he told me they’ve been hard at work making sure it’s “filled with loads of cool new stuff that people really haven’t seen before”. He also said that their partnership with Games Workshop has allowed them to “really go to town in terms of the visuals, the lore, [and] the story that we’re telling”, and he hopes that the way they’ve characterised the campaign’s principal faction, the Stormcast Eternals, will give players plenty to sink their teeth into when it launches in full.

Screenshot Saturday Mondays: Throw that egg

Every weekend, indie devs show off current work on Twitter’s #screenshotsaturday tag. And every Monday, I bring you a selection of these snaps and clips. This week is another shortie because Twitter is once again broken and refusing to show all the weekend’s posts, which sure feels ominous for the social media platform. The games are still good. Come on in for an immersive sim with a clever little technology trick, an adventure game set in a city on a giant octopus, the throwing of an egg, and more attractive and interesting indie games.

Just in case your Steam wishlists weren’t already stocked up from this year’s Summer Geoff Fest bonanza, here we are with another edition of Valve’s Steam Next Fest, which has unleashed hundreds, if not thousands of free game demos on us, starting from today, June 19th, until Monday June 26th. Zelda: TOTK Players Discover Simple Way To Make Rupees With ‘Frozen Meat Glitch’

Looks like meat’s back on the menu, lads!

In the month since its launch, players have found a variety of different glitches in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to make filling up the inventory that bit easier. With each patch that Nintendo has implemented, more of these glitches have been fixed, but that hasn’t deterred some brave souls from finding newer and easier methods.

One such glitch, lovingly called the ‘frozen meat glitch’ (don’t worry, you’ll see why) is quickly proving to be a speedy way of getting yourself a boatload of rupees with very little effort required (thanks, Kotaku). We have tested the method at Nintendo Life Towers and can confirm that it works as of ver.1.1.2 — but who knows whether it will make it through the next patch…

Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Map Is a Similar Size to Unity’s Paris

Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s map size won’t be anywhere near as big as Valhalla’s or Odyssey’s, instead coming in closer to Unity’s Paris or Revelations’ Constantinople.

Speaking to Easy Allies, a Ubisoft spokesperson explained that this year’s Assassin’s Creed will not just be revisiting its stealth origins, but also returning to the series’ roots in terms of map size. Mirage’s Baghdad will be a far cry from the sprawling worlds available in recent entries.

“They compared it specifically to Constantinople in Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Paris in Assassin’s Creed Unity,” said Easy Allies’ Michael Huber.

For those unfamiliar, Assassin’s Creed switched to a more RPG-esque model in 2017’s Origins that continued into Odyssey and Valhalla. With that switch came much, much larger open worlds. But just as Mirage looks to return to the stealth-first approach of early entries, it seems as if it will also deliver a much smaller and densely packed map.

Also unlike the recent trilogy, where players could dual wield axes while leading a raid on very-much suspecting adversaries, combat will be a last resort in Mirage.

The game was fully revealed at Ubisoft Forward 2022 following a series of leaks and will put players in the shoes of assassin Basim Ibn Ishaq. Set in the city of Baghdad 20 years before the events of Valhalla, Mirage will be available on October 12 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, and PC.
