Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases City Update II: France & Local Legend 09: Latécoère 631

Celebrate French Aviation with new Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) cities and the Latécoère 631

The Microsoft Flight Simulator team is delighted to introduce the free City Update II: France, which captures five beautiful cities: Amiens, Angers, Nantes, Nîmes, and Reims; and to celebrate the Paris Air Show, the update also includes the famed Paris–Le Bourget Airport (LFPB) in both standard and festival configurations.

City Update II: France

Some highlights from each city:

  • Amiens, located in France’s northern region, is home to the Amiens Cathedral, the largest gothic cathedral in France.
  • Angers, in the western region, is renowned for the towering Angers Cathedral and its black- and white-walled castle.
  • Nantes, near the Atlantic coast just west of Angers, invites aerial exploration of its myriad architectural displays along the Loire River and of the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany.
  • Nîmes, in southern France, offers an incredible collection of Roman-era architecture, including the Arena of Nîmes, an amphitheater that still hosts live shows to vast audiences.
  • Reims, located 80 miles northeast of Paris, claims some of the best examples of French Gothic architecture, notably Reims Cathedral.

Paris–Le Bourget Airport (LFPB), the landing site of Charles Lindbergh’s historic solo transatlantic crossing in 1927 in the Spirit of St. Louis and the current host to the Paris Air Show 2023.

City Update II: France is now available free to all owners of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Ensure that your simulator is updated to version 1.32.7.0, download City Update II, and experience some of the very best sights that France has to offer.

Local Legend 09: Latécoère 631

To celebrate the proud history of French aviation, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team is also releasing today Local Legend 09: the Latécoère Model 631, an all-metal, high-wing, six-engine flying boat designed and manufactured by France’s Latécoère Corporation. This aircraft represents a great source of French national pride. The large, elegantly shaped Model 631 first took to the sky on November 4, 1942.

The Model 631 was the largest flying boat in the world for several years. Only the American Hughes H-4 Hercules “Spruce Goose,” which flew just once on November 2, 1947, and the British Saunders-Roe Princess, which took its maiden flight on August 22, 1952, were larger. As the last of the great trans-oceanic flying boat airliners, the Model 631 flew until the mid-1950s.

The Latécoère Model 631 will be available for $14.99 and comes with 16 liveries.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is available for Xbox Series X|S and PC with Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, Windows, and Steam, and on Xbox One and supported mobile phones, tablets, and lower-spec PCs via Xbox Cloud Gaming. Final Fantasy 16 Will Have a Day One Patch Despite Square Enix Suggesting Otherwise

Final Fantasy 16 will join basically every other game in having a day one patch, despite Square Enix previously suggesting it wouldn’t.

As reported by MP1ST, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed the game will have a roughly 300 megabyte update upon release during a pre-launch live stream.

This comes in contrary to comments from director Hiroshi Takai, who said in May that the developer wasn’t planning to release a day one update. Speaking to Game Informer, Takai said this is because the team is confident in its final built of Final Fantasy 16 and that it wanted to ensure the game could be accessed without an internet connection.

Yoshida and the development team apologised for including a day one patch after all but made clear it isn’t a mandatory download, that the game is still completely playable without an internet connection, and that it will be included in the pre-load for digital copies.

The update is relatively minor, of course, coming in at almost nothing compared to some other recent examples. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, another single player game, required a several dozen gigabyte day one update and couldn’t be played in any form without an internet connection.

Final Fantasy 16’s update will fix some minor text errors, optimise performance in several places, and fix back-end bugs that stopped progression or caused crashing in very specific circumstances.

The game launches on June 22 but Square Enix has warned that spoilers may have already leaked online due to the “illegitimate acquisition” of physical copies. Fans looking to spoil themselves can jump into a playable prologue, however, with progress from the demo carrying over to the main game.

Feature: A Kou Shibusawa Production – Changing History With Koei Tecmo’s OG Strategy Studio

“The more we learn…the more it fuels our creativity”.

History fans love to ask a good ‘what if?’ question. A completely hypothetical situation to explore how small changes could impact the course of world events. Video games that explore these kinds of questions usually fall into the grand strategy genre, putting players at the head of a faction with the aim to dominate their enemies either through political manipulation or brute force, and seeing what might have happened if some grand historical engagement had gone the other way.

One developer that has always been at the heart of the grand strategy genre is Kou Shibusawa, a division of Koei Tecmo that has been producing some of the best and most celebrated historical strategy titles out there, dating back to the original NES. We had a chance to talk to some of the heads of this celebrated studio to discuss their history in the genre and what keeps players coming back for more.

Soapbox: Fortnite On Switch Is Five Years Old, And I Have No Idea What It Is Anymore

Was that Ariana Grande shooting Spider-Man?

Soapbox features enable our individual writers and contributors to voice their opinions on hot topics and random stuff they’ve been chewing over. Today, Jim returns to Fortnite to celebrate the Switch port’s fifth anniversary, and he’s not sure what he’s dropped into…

When Fortnite first made the jump to Switch five years ago, I couldn’t get enough. The online shooter had gone portable in early 2018 with the mobile version, but my chunky thumbs and out-of-date phone meant that was never going to cut the mustard. The Switch version, however, hit the sweet spot — portable enough to play it on the go, but just large enough that I could pour a good few hours into it without hand cramp setting in. And I really did pour those hours in.

Persona 5 Tactica Used Persona Q Character Designs During Testing Phase

Devs realise “many people might associate” new game with PQ.

Persona 5 Tactica is a new spin-off featuring a completely different experience (and look) to the main game.

If you’re getting Persona Q vibes from the art style, you’re admittedly not alone. In a recent issue of Weekly Famitsu, P Studio general producer Kazuhisa Wada revealed that during the testing phase of the new turn-based strategy game, the team actually applied “character designs directly from the Persona Q series”. In the end, the team decided to redraw everything (via Persona Central).

Shadow The Hedgehog Won’t Be In Sonic Superstars, Unsurprisingly

“Sorry” to all the Shadow fans out there.

One Sonic character that will be returning in the future, but won’t be featured in the upcoming release Sonic Superstars is Shadow the Hedgehog.

During a chat with Shacknews earlier this week, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka was asked about the possibility of Shadow appearing in Sega’s upcoming multiplayer platformer. Although this new entry has 3D visuals, it’s apparently all about the “classic” characters.

Splatoon 3 Devs Tease “New And Different” Gameplay In Wave 2 DLC

“So please look forward to it”.

Splatoon 3 is well worth a look on the Switch, but if you do need an extra reason to check it out or just return to Splatsville, there’s actually a second wave of Expansion Pass DLC coming at some point “in the future”.

During an interview with Famitsu recently, Splatoon producer Hisashi Nogami teased a bit about what players could expect from the mysterious update “Side Order” – mentioning how the gameplay in this “single player campaign” will be “completely new and different” (translation via Nintendo Everything).
